TR19 inspection for sites in Breeds

About our TR19 inspection in Breeds

Not every kitchen fits neatly into a calendar. In a busy kitchen, grease can build faster than the minimum intervals allow for, and only measurement shows it. Our readings give your risk assessment real numbers to work from. We are often asked to deal with missing TR19 certificates or history and confirming a clean reached the whole system, on access surveys, pre-clean surveys and post-clean checks.

Somewhere as small as Breeds, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

What TR19 inspection looks like in Breeds

The Food Standards Agency lists about 6 pubs and bars as registered food businesses within about 1.5 miles of central Breeds. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Food hygiene inspections in Breeds are the job of Chelmsford council’s environmental health team. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Breeds sits within the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

Bursars and site managers at schools such as Chelmer Valley High School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Broomfield Hospital (about 1.2 miles south-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

Breeds is about 4 miles north of Chelmsford, in Essex. Every kind of commercial site in Breeds, TR19 inspection is something we can help with. We can work out of hours so the site keeps running. Our Essex coverage runs to 644 places, Breeds among them.

How we price TR19 inspection

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:

  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • What state the system is in
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels

Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we will price it together.

What to send for a quote

Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Useful things to send:

  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • The postcode and the type of business

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

Between visits

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted properly
  • Have the latest report ready for insurance renewals
  • Flag oily drips near the extract
  • Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test

After the inspection, we send a report showing each reading, its location and photos. Keep it with your fire safety and TR19 records.

Test grease regularly instead of relying on the calendar. It spots changes in how fast grease builds.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.

FAQs for Breeds

Do you work at weekends in Breeds?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. It means the site in Breeds keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Breeds out of term?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. Around Breeds, the Food Standards Agency lists about 5 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Send us your term dates when you phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and we’ll fit the work in.

What do you do with what you remove?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it does not spread.

How much time does an inspection need?

It takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. The visit is timed so cooking isn’t disrupted.

What do the grease readings need to be?

TR19® Grease says the mean shouldn’t exceed 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere at 500 microns or more needs spot cleaning straight away.

Do you work in Breeds?

Yes. Our technicians work in Breeds, as part of our area across London and the South East.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.

When to call us in Breeds

Looking at a canopy tells you little about what’s in the duct. Clean filters can hide a heavy layer behind them, so readings are the reliable guide.

Common reasons sites call us are:

  • Missing access panels found on survey
  • Kitchens whose menu or hours have changed
  • Sites with gaps in their extract records
  • Systems that need surveying before cleaning

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of SS Mary and Laurence, or anywhere in Breeds, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

Comparing quotes

  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
  • Proof of insurance

Questions to ask before you book

Why act early in Breeds

Skipping grease testing leaves the cleaning interval to guesswork. If grease reaches 500 microns anywhere, TR19® Grease calls for immediate spot cleaning, and you can only act on that if you’ve measured it. Rural sites cannot always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

You will not find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.

Why book with us

  • Fixed quotes, normally within one working day
  • BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
  • Photo reports with every job
  • Trading since 2009

What happens on the day

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Breeds and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. We agree a time when the kitchen is closed or quiet.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. We take WFTT or DTT readings at set points along the system.
  4. Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
  5. We send a report setting out the readings, pictures and next steps.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
