About kitchen extract cleaning in SG3
Think of it as a health check for the kitchen’s airways: diagnose with a survey, treat with a thorough clean, then sign it off. That clean bill of health comes as a TR19 certificate and a photo report, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. The work covers canopies and hoods, extract fans and discharge points, and common reasons people get in touch are a kitchen with no current TR19 certificate and an inspection that picked up a dirty extract.
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
- We record grease levels at set points, then fix the price.
- After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
- Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
- Then the clean bill of health: readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next date.

What’s near Knebworth
Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to Church of St Martin, Knebworth Park and Knebworth Primary and Nursery School, among other places. There’s a railway station in Knebworth itself: Knebworth station. Other landmarks nearby include Benington Castle (3.6 miles north-east) and Datchworth Museum (1.7 miles south-east). For a walk, there’s Mardley Heath.
Kitchen extract cleaning across SG3: local notes
Kitchens across SG3 cook for very different hours, from all-day town-centre sites to part-time hall and school kitchens. Grease readings and BESA’s minimum intervals set the schedule for each.
In England, the Fire Safety Order puts the duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and a TR19® certificate and photo report give you a record of the work.
Knebworth: A hospital like Lister Hospital, about 4.2 miles north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. Where a hall near Church of St Martin, or anywhere in Knebworth, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.
Managing agents and facilities teams in SG3
When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.
Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with pictures.
What kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix
We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:
- Fat blocking the kitchen drains
- Faulty fire dampers in the duct
- An undersized canopy or fan
Different parts, different methods
Extract fan and discharge
The fan pulls the air through the whole system, and grease that gets past everything else ends up on its blades. We isolate it, open it up and degrease it.
Restaurant and pub kitchens
High-heat cooking loads the extract with grease, so grease readings help set the right interval.
Keeping the system healthy
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Switch the fan on before cooking starts
- Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
- Never cook with filters missing or out of place
- Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly
Any section without access is marked on the report. A TR19 report should record what wasn’t cleaned as well as what was, and new access panels can be fitted so the next clean covers it.
Keep the fan on throughout service. Cooking with the extract off lets grease and heat settle in the canopy, and the next clean has more to do.
Leave it or put it right?
Grease that’s left only gets thicker. BESA guidance says the mean should not go above 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere reaching 500 microns or more needs a spot clean straight away. Heavy build-up takes longer to remove than regular cleans.

SG3 questions
Which parts of the extract do you clean?
All of it, from the canopy through to the discharge. Where there aren’t enough access panels to reach a section, it’s recorded, and we can fit new ones.
Where does the waste go?
It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it does not spread.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.
How much notice should we give?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
What about areas you can’t get to?
They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.
