Book a TR19 clean in PO13

Kitchen extract cleaning in PO13: how it works

Think of it as a health check for the kitchen’s airways: diagnose with a survey, treat with a thorough clean, then sign it off. The sign-off is a TR19 certificate with a photo report, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Common call-outs are for grease dripping from the canopy or filters and a kitchen with no current TR19 certificate, across canopies and hoods, horizontal duct runs and vertical risers.

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by pictures or a visit.
  2. We measure the grease at set points along the system, then give you a fixed price.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Pricing in PO13

Kitchen extract cleaning around PO13

Across PO13, from Gosport, Stubbington and Lee-on-the-Solent outwards, kitchens range from town-centre restaurants and takeaways to pubs, hotels, schools and care homes. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.

London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. The same TR19® standard applies to all of them, in PO13 and beyond. Parts of PO13 are on or near the coast, where salt air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings. We look for corrosion as well as dirt on coastal sites.

Lee-on-the-Solent: Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Gosport War Memorial Hospital is the nearest hospital to Lee-on-the-Solent, about 2.1 miles east. If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Lee-on-the-Solent (Osborne House is about 4.9 miles south-west), fitting access panels needs care.

Different parts, different methods

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Busy restaurant and pub kitchens often cook for long hours, frying and grilling, so their cleaning interval is often 3 or 6 months under BESA guidance. Cleans are done after close, overnight or before opening.

Schools, hospitals and care homes

School kitchens can look lightly used but still need a TR19 clean at least every 12 months under BESA guidance. School holidays are an easy time to do it.

Why deal with it now?

Grease build-up causes everyday problems too. Blocked filters and narrowed ducts slow the airflow, leaving the kitchen hot and smoky, while the fan works harder to move less air. Smells, dripping grease and condensation often follow.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How they set the interval to the next visit
  • Whether VAT is included
  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach

What we’re called out for in PO13

Grease in an extract starts as vapour. Once it cools inside the ductwork, it condenses onto every surface it touches, building a layer that gets thicker with every service. The grease filters stop some, never all of it.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs
  • Extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit
  • A new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history
  • Fat running down the canopy edge

What your team can do, and what needs us

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • How big the system is
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

What to send for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • A few general shots of the system
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Any previous report or certificate

Want a quote for kitchen extract cleaning? Please ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with a few details about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and give you a fixed quote before anything is booked.

PO13: your questions answered

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we will talk you through the next steps.

How long does it take to clean a kitchen extract system?

That depends on the size of the system, the amount of grease and the number of access points. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system.

What about areas you cannot get to?

The report shows them clearly. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, and we can fit those.

What does a TR19 kitchen extract clean include?

A TR19 Grease clean covers the full extract route, not just the canopy. That means canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge, reached through access panels where needed.

How often should a kitchen extract be cleaned?

That comes down mainly to daily cooking hours. BESA’s minimums run from every 3 months for heavy use to every 12 months for light use. We’ll recommend a date after measuring the grease.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.

Does the law say I must clean to TR19?

TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19 is the benchmark used to show extract grease is under control.
