Kitchen extract cleaning in MK2

Kitchen extract cleaning in MK2: how it works

Across MK2, we clean kitchen extract systems to BESA TR19® Grease. The job starts with a survey and grease readings, then works through canopy, plenum, filters, ductwork, fan and discharge. At the finish there’s a TR19 certificate and a before and after photo report. The work covers canopies and hoods, plenums and filters and extract fans, and people most often call us about extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit and an extract that no longer clears the smoke.

There are three stages on the day: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and photos. The middle part takes longest, and that takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system.

  1. We start with a survey, so we know every part of the system before we quote.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before any work starts.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

How we quote

You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.

What you get with us

  • Full insurance on every job
  • Every job surveyed first
  • Trading since 2009
  • Every visit written up, with photos

Getting a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Kitchen extract cleaning around MK2

From Bletchley, Bletchley and Fenny Stratford and Fenny Stratford to its smaller places, MK2 has kitchens of every size. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.

MK2 is within the area we cover, which takes in London and the South East. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed quote.

Bletchley and Fenny Stratford: If you run a café or takeaway near Bletchley station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Water Eaton Church Centre or elsewhere in Bletchley and Fenny Stratford, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Why deal with it now?

Grease that is left only gets thicker. BESA guidance says the mean should not go above 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Heavy build-up takes longer to remove than regular cleans.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • Whether VAT is included
  • Whether a survey comes first
  • How they set the interval to the next visit

Multi-site and managed buildings

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too in MK2 and across Milton Keynes. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

When something else is needed

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what kitchen extract cleaning won’t do:

  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing
  • A grease trap that needs emptying
  • A broken extract fan that will not run

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids

The cost depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

What to send for a quote

You do not need the technical terms. Just send:

  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Problems your staff have spotted

To get a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. We typically come back within one working day.

Different parts, different methods

Restaurant and pub kitchens

A pub or restaurant can’t afford to cancel a service for a clean. We work overnight and at weekends where that suits, and hand back a clean kitchen ready to cook.

Extract fan and discharge

At the end of the system is the discharge, which can collect grease and stain the surface around it. We clean it where it can be safely reached, and any limits are recorded.

FAQs for MK2

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes, of course. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we’ll propose a schedule with a fixed quote.

What’s TR19?

A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

What accreditations do you hold?

We’re members of Vent Hygiene Elite, the scheme run by BESCA, and we clean to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Every job is surveyed first, from your photos and details, or with a visit where necessary. Then you get a fixed quote.

What paperwork comes with a kitchen extract clean?

Every clean comes with a TR19 certificate and a photo report. They belong in the maintenance log, ready for your insurer or an inspection.

How do you protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before work begins, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.

Do we have to close the kitchen for the clean?

The clean is done when the kitchen isn’t cooking, so evenings, overnight, early mornings and weekends are all options. Equipment needs to be off and cool before work begins.
