Kitchen extract cleaning near Waterend

About our kitchen extract cleaning in Waterend

We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are often asked to deal with proof of cleaning requested by an insurer and an inspection that picked up a dirty extract, across plenums and filters, canopies and hoods and discharge points. Kitchen extract cleaning, TR19 cleaning, extraction cleaning: whatever you call it, in Waterend it means the same thing to us: the whole system, cleaned and certificated.

BESA sets minimum intervals by hours of cooking a day: every 3 months for 12–16 hours, every 6 months for 6–12 hours and every 12 months for 2–6 hours, with grease readings setting the real interval.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

What a clean will not put right

Not every problem is solved by kitchen extract cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing
  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains

If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think before booking.

What the work covers

  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Discharge points
  • Canopies and hoods
  • Vertical risers
  • Plenums and filters
  • Extract fans

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

There are about 4 restaurants, cafés and canteens within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Waterend, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Any of them cooking under a canopy is sending grease into its ductwork every service. In Waterend, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Buckinghamshire council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Waterend sits within the area of Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

A hospital like Wycombe Hospital, about 5.4 miles south-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (West Wycombe Park House is about 3.1 miles east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

Aftercare tips

So the system stays in good health:

  • Run the extract fan throughout cooking
  • Wash or exchange the filters often
  • Diarise the next clean as soon as you get the certificate
  • File each certificate with the fire risk assessment

You get a photo report after every clean. Before and after photos show each part of the system, and lists what was cleaned, any areas we couldn’t reach and the date the next clean is due.

Keep the outside of the canopy wiped and any grease cups emptied. A daily wipe isn’t a deep clean, but it helps between visits.

Waterend: your questions answered

Do you work at weekends in Waterend?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. It means the site in Waterend keeps running as normal. Just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.

Who inspects food businesses in Waterend?

Food hygiene inspections in Waterend are carried out by Buckinghamshire council. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Are you a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 sit alongside that, and we’re fully insured.

Is Waterend in your area?

Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of South East England, and that includes Waterend.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with photos where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Yes, where the photos show enough. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and you’ll get one fixed quote.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.

How the visit works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before we start, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits. Somewhere as small as Waterend, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. We start with a survey, so we know every part of the system before we quote.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before work begins.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Readings and photos are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

How to get a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

What we are called out for in Waterend

The type of cooking changes the amount of grease. Frying, grilling and roasting send far more fat into the canopy than steaming or boiling, so two kitchens with the same hours can need very different intervals.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer
  • Ductwork thick with old, hardened grease
  • A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate
  • Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Waterend, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered
  • What insurance they carry
  • What records you will receive afterwards

Questions to ask before booking

Part by part

Restaurant and pub kitchens

A pub or restaurant can’t afford to cancel a service for a clean. Overnight and weekend cleans keep the kitchen trading, and hand back a clean kitchen ready to cook.

Grease filters

Baffle filters are cleaned as part of every TR19 clean, and refitted so they sit properly in the housing. We’ll tell you if any need replacing.

Fixed quotes for kitchen extract cleaning in Waterend

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:

  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • The scale of the work
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • The condition of the system

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

What we need to know

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • The site address and the type of premises

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then give you a fixed quote. To start, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
