Kitchen duct cleaning in The Folly

We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. The work covers canopies and hoods, vertical risers and extract fans, and the jobs we see most are an overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer and a smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction. Kitchen extract cleaning, TR19 cleaning, extraction cleaning: whatever you call it, in The Folly it means the same thing to us: the whole system, cleaned and certificated.

We clean every reachable part of the system in The Folly: canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers and fan, then record anything that couldn’t be reached.

In a small place like The Folly, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

Each visit ends with a written report and photos, so there’s a dated record of the work. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before any work starts, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system. Visits to a village like The Folly are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the whole system and its access points.
  2. Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
  3. We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
  4. Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive

Get a fixed quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • The condition of the system
  • A single visit or a regular plan

We don’t list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we’ll talk you through it.

Helping us quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

Questions from The Folly

Will you come out to The Folly?

Yes, The Folly is part of our area, however small the site. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Do you work overnight in The Folly?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. Your customers, staff or residents in The Folly needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we will book within them.

What about areas you can’t get to?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Will my insurer ask for a TR19 certificate?

Extract grease is fuel for a kitchen fire, which is why many insurers require TR19 cleaning. Each clean gives you a certificate and photo report to show them.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for anything that can’t wait until a planned visit. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.

Which sectors do you work in?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.

Can you quote from pictures?

In many cases, yes. With good photos, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.

What’s the right cleaning interval for a kitchen extract?

That comes down mainly to daily cooking hours. Heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day calls for a clean at least every 3 months under BESA guidance, and lighter use less often. Your report gives a recommended next clean date.

Why it’s worth doing now in The Folly

There’s no law that names TR19, but the Fire Safety Order 2005 still applies. It puts a duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and in a kitchen that means keeping extract grease under control. Cleaning to TR19 is the recognised way to show you’ve done it. In a place like The Folly, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email for straight advice and a fixed quote.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Kitchen extracts in The Folly

Food Standards Agency records include about 4 pubs and bars within about 1.5 miles of central The Folly. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. The fire and rescue service for The Folly is Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

When something else is needed

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • An undersized canopy or fan
  • Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
  • Fire dampers that will not close (that needs damper testing and remedials)

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on in The Folly

  • Canopies and hoods
  • Plenums and filters
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Discharge points
  • Extract fans
  • Vertical risers

Signs you need kitchen extract cleaning in The Folly

It’s common for parts of a duct to have been missed for years. The usual reason is a lack of access panels, so nobody could get to them. That hidden grease keeps building where nobody looks.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • A system with no record of a TR19 clean
  • A TR19 certificate needed for the insurer
  • Poor airflow at the canopy
  • An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Helen's Church, or anywhere in The Folly, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.
