Kitchen extract cleaning in Tangley

Commercial kitchen extraction cleaning in Tangley

Few kitchens can stop cooking for a day so the extract can be cleaned. Cleans are booked for evenings, overnight or weekends, or between services where the kitchen has a gap. With the equipment off and cool and the area sheeted, we clean and hand the kitchen back ready for the next service. The work covers vertical risers, plenums and filters and canopies and hoods, and the jobs we see most are a kitchen taken over without any extract records and a smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction. Canopy cleaning, extract cleaning and duct cleaning are often used to mean the same thing, but a proper TR19® clean in Tangley covers all of it, from the hood to the fan.

Access decides how thorough a clean can be. Where a duct run has no panels, we say so on the report and can fit new ones.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

Aftercare tips

Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
  • Make sure every filter is fitted before cooking
  • Run the extract fan throughout cooking
  • Keep to the recommended cleaning interval

If we couldn’t get into part of the duct, the report says so plainly. That is part of an honest TR19 clean, not a failing, and new access panels can be fitted so the next clean covers it.

Regular filter cleaning is the simplest thing a kitchen can do. A filter that is clean and seated properly stops more grease getting into the plenum, so the ductwork stays cleaner for longer.

Tangley: your questions answered

Who is the fire and rescue service for Tangley?

Fire safety enforcement in Tangley is handled by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Who inspects food businesses in Tangley?

Kitchens in Tangley are inspected by Test Valley council’s environmental health officers. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

What paperwork comes with a kitchen extract clean?

Every clean comes with a TR19 certificate and a photo report. They belong in the maintenance log so they’re to hand when an insurer asks.

What information do you need?

A short description and a few photos, with the address and opening hours. If we need more, we’ll ask.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Are you a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member?

Our work is to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, and certificates go through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. We have been trading since 2009.

Will my insurer ask for a TR19 certificate?

Grease in an extract is a known fire risk, so many insurers want evidence it’s being cleaned to TR19. Each clean gives you a certificate and photo report to show them.

How far ahead should we book?

Book as early as you can for planned work, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

Why act early in Tangley

Leaving the clean until the next refit doesn’t make the grease go away. Over time, soft grease bakes into a harder, thicker crust, which is slower to clean. Regular cleans keep each visit shorter. If the system at a site near Tangley fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Different parts, different methods

Schools, hospitals and care homes

Some healthcare kitchens never fully close. We plan the clean around meal times and work in a contained, tidy way with as little disruption as possible.

Ductwork and risers

Bends and changes of direction trap more grease than straight runs. We test at points like these before and after cleaning, so the report shows the difference.

Common problems we fix in Tangley

The reason for all this is fire. Flames from a pan or grill can be pulled into the canopy by the fan, and once grease in the duct catches, fire can spread through the building’s ductwork. For a kitchen in Tangley, keeping that fuel under control is part of the fire risk assessment.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Years of baked-on grease in the ducts
  • Extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit
  • Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer
  • Fat running down the canopy edge

A hospital like Andover War Memorial Hospital, about 4.3 miles south, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

What your quote should include

  • What insurance they carry
  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered
  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • The scale of the work
  • The condition of the system

What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

What to send for a quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

What happens on the day

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system. If you can send pictures, we can arrive in Tangley knowing what to expect.

  1. We survey the system, from your pictures or on site, canopy to discharge.
  2. We take grease readings at set points and send you a fixed quote.
  3. On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
  4. Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

How to get a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.
