Kitchen extract cleaning in South Stour

Kitchen duct cleaning in South Stour

Few kitchens can stop cooking for a day so the extract can be cleaned. Cleans are booked for evenings, overnight or weekends, or between services where the kitchen has a gap. With the equipment off and cool and the area sheeted, we clean and hand the kitchen back ready for the next service. If you’re dealing with years of baked-on grease in the ducts and extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit, we can help. For TR19 kitchen extract cleaning in South Stour, one call covers the survey, the clean and the paperwork, wherever you are in Kent.

A kitchen running fryers and chargrills all day builds up grease much faster than one that mostly steams and boils, so the interval is set by what you cook as well as how long.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a dated report with photos of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Questions from South Stour

Can you get to a site in South Stour?

Yes, South Stour is part of our area, however small the site. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Who is the fire and rescue service for South Stour?

Fire safety enforcement in South Stour is handled by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.

Is a quote from pictures possible?

Yes, if we can see what we need. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, and the quote follows that.

How often should a kitchen extract be cleaned?

BESA guidance sets minimums by daily cooking hours: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Measured grease levels set the real interval.

What about areas you cannot get to?

We record them on the report, with a note of where it is, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, with the emergency line covering every other hour.

What happens to the waste?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.

What a clean won’t put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains
  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • Ductwork that is corroded, split or leaking (that’s for a ductwork contractor)

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will say what we think.

How it works

We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we’re in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one. Somewhere as small as South Stour, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. We survey the system first, from your pictures and details or on a site visit.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before any work starts.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
  5. Readings and pictures are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Getting a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Grease filters

Filters need cleaning far more often than the duct and we offer a filter exchange service for that. Clean filters slow the build-up further down the system.

Extract fan and discharge

Some systems have attenuators to cut noise, and they hold grease. We clean what can be reached and note anything that can’t.

South Stour kitchens: local notes

South Stour sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. About 51 miles out from central London, South Stour is part of the South East area we work across. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site.

For schools such as Finberry Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as William Harvey Hospital (about 2.4 miles north), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

South Stour is about 3 miles south-east of Ashford, in Kent. Sites in South Stour get the same service as everywhere we cover: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where needed and a written report with pictures. South Stour is one of 922 towns, villages and districts in Kent where we work for commercial clients. Maidstone is in our area too, around 20 miles away.

Postcode districts we cover here for kitchen extract cleaning: TN25. If your site is just outside South Stour, we cover Mersham (1 mile north-east), Sevington (2 miles north), Hinxhill Park (2 miles north), Ridgeway (3 miles north-east) and Hinxhill (3 miles north-east). Between visits

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Don’t let the canopy gutters overflow
  • Keep the cleaning records where you can find them
  • Flag any change in how the extract sounds or works
  • Never cook with filters missing or out of place

You leave with a date for the next clean, based on your cooking hours and the grease we measured. A 3, 6 or 12-monthly maintenance plan keeps it on track, so the date isn’t missed.

Wipe the canopy down regularly and empty grease troughs or collection points. It will not replace a TR19 clean, but it slows what reaches the duct.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Common problems we fix in South Stour

A lot of duct grease gets there because the filters let it through. Damaged, missing or overloaded filters let grease straight past, and it does not stop until it reaches the fan.

The symptoms we are asked about most include:

  • Rancid smells from grease in the duct
  • A new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history
  • Cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey
  • Ductwork thick with old, hardened grease

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around South Stour (Godinton House is about 4.8 miles north-west), fitting access panels needs care.

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

Why deal with it now?

If your kitchen in South Stour is past its cleaning date, it’s worth booking now. It takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system, and we fit around your opening hours. Every extra month adds grease. If the system at a site near South Stour fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before work begins.
