  • A kitchen taken over without any extract records

Kitchen extract cleaning for sites in Sholing

Why act early in Sholing

Putting it off simply moves the grease further down the duct. Fat that was soft and easy to remove hardens with heat and time, which is slower to clean. Regular cleans keep each visit shorter. A site near Sholing that has to close at short notice is hard to cover for.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

What you get with us

  • A written report with photos after each visit
  • We diagnose before we treat
  • Ventilation hygiene specialists since 2009
  • CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001

Kitchen extract cleaning in Sholing

Cooking sends fat-laden vapour into the canopy with every service. It cools inside the duct and settles as a sticky film that thickens month by month. That layer will burn, and cleaning the whole system is how you keep it under control. The work covers plenums and filters, vertical risers and discharge points, and common reasons people get in touch are extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit and ductwork thick with old, hardened grease. Hood cleaning is where most enquiries from Sholing start: a clean that goes past the canopy into the duct and fan, backed by a certificate.

BESA sets minimum intervals by hours of cooking a day: 3-monthly for heavy use, 6-monthly for moderate use and yearly for light use, adjusted by what the grease readings show.

Size does not change the work: a kitchen in a place like Sholing gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. So every job comes with a written report and photos, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Sholing: your questions answered

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Sholing during the holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. With about 34 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Sholing, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Just call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with your term dates and we will plan around them.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Sholing?

Fire safety enforcement in Sholing is handled by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we’ll talk you through the next steps.

What types of premises do you cover?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.

What accreditations do you hold?

As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, our work sits within an independently audited scheme. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and a few photos plus the address and your hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.

What does TR19 mean?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked, and it takes a risk-based approach.

What do I get after the clean?

You receive a TR19 certificate and a photo report. Certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, and the report shows before and after photos, readings, any areas not reached and the next clean date.

Common problems we fix in Sholing

Grease in an extract starts as vapour. As the air cools on its way through the duct, the fat condenses and sticks, and the layer grows a little with every meal cooked. The grease filters stop some, never all of it.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • A system with no record of a TR19 clean
  • Rancid smells from grease in the duct
  • Poor airflow at the canopy
  • Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer

For kitchens close to Sholing station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.

Kitchen extracts in Sholing

Sholing lies within about 2 miles of the sea. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. The FSA’s data shows about 26 pubs and bars registered in Sholing and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Fire safety in Sholing falls to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

For schools such as St Monica Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Royal South Hants Hospital about 2 miles north-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

What happens on the day

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. Visits to a place like Sholing are planned ahead, so we arrive with what the survey says the job needs.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the whole system and its access points.
  2. Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
  3. We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
  4. The treatment: heavy grease scraped out, then every part degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Clear the space around the work

How to get a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before any work starts.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Sholing

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so each one has its own record.

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • A duct that’s holed or coming apart
  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • A damper that sticks or has a damaged link

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Canopies and hoods
  • Plenums and filters
  • Discharge points
  • Vertical risers
  • Extract fans
  • Horizontal duct runs

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Keeping the system healthy

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Clean the grease filters regularly between TR19 cleans
  • Run the extract fan throughout cooking
  • Report grease drips, smells or fan noise straight away
  • Don’t let the canopy gutters overflow

We hand the kitchen back clean, with the sheeting removed and waste taken away. Grease and dirty water are collected and taken off site, so you can start cooking as normal.

Wipe the canopy down regularly and empty grease troughs or collection points. It will not replace a TR19 clean, but it slows what reaches the duct.
