Kitchen extracts in Rush Green

There are about 99 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 36 takeaways across Rush Green and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half), according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Every kitchen in that count with a canopy has a full extract system, canopy to discharge, to keep clear of grease. Kitchens in Rush Green get their food hygiene inspections from East Hertfordshire council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Fire safety in Rush Green falls to Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

Bursars and site managers at schools such as Wheatcroft Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. If you cook for passing trade around Ware station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.

About our kitchen extract cleaning in Rush Green

Think of it as a health check for the kitchen’s airways: survey first, clean second, sign-off last. That clean bill of health comes as a TR19 certificate and a photo report, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If you have an extract that has never been cleaned to TR19 and grease drips onto cooking equipment, we can put it right, from canopies and hoods, horizontal duct runs and extract fans onwards. Searching for commercial kitchen extraction cleaning in Rush Green? Duct Doctor has covered London and the South East since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member.

BESA sets minimum intervals by hours of cooking a day: every 3 months for 12–16 hours, every 6 months for 6–12 hours and every 12 months for 2–6 hours, with grease readings setting the real interval.

Somewhere as small as Rush Green, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

FAQs for Rush Green

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Rush Green?

In Rush Green, it’s East Hertfordshire council that carries out food hygiene inspections. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Rush Green?

It’s Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Rush Green. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

What do I get after the clean?

Every clean comes with a TR19 certificate and a photo report. Keep them in the maintenance log with the fire risk assessment so they’re to hand when an insurer asks.

Do insurers need proof of extract cleaning?

Extract grease is fuel for a kitchen fire, so many insurers want evidence it’s being cleaned to TR19. Each clean gives you a certificate and photo report to show them.

Do you work in Rush Green?

Yes. We work in Rush Green and the rest of Hertfordshire, as part of our work across South East England and London. For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

What happens to the waste?

It leaves the site with us at the end of the visit. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

We never leave them off the paperwork. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Which sectors do you work in?

Commercial premises of every kind: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. Work is timed around how each site runs.

What the work involves, part by part

Ductwork and risers

Bends and changes of direction trap more grease than straight runs. Those are among the points where we take readings before and after, so the report shows the difference.

Canopy and plenum

Canopies vary from a single hood to long runs over several appliances, each section is cleaned and photographed before and after.

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • The number of sites or systems
  • What state the system is in

One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before work begins.

Helping us quote

A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

What a clean will not put right

We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains
  • A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed
  • Ductwork that is corroded, split or leaking (that’s for a ductwork contractor)

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think.

What the work covers

  • Discharge points
  • Vertical risers
  • Plenums and filters
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Canopies and hoods
  • Extract fans

Leave it or put it right?

A clogged extract does not only raise the fire risk. Blocked filters and narrowed ducts slow the airflow, leaving the kitchen hot and smoky, while the fan works harder to move less air. Smells, dripping grease and condensation often follow. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

Keeping the system healthy

Results last longer with the right care. We suggest:

  • Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
  • Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly
  • File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy

When the clean is finished, grease readings are taken again at the same points, giving you before and after readings alongside the pictures. Your TR19 certificate is then issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Wipe the canopy down regularly and empty grease troughs or collection points. It will not replace a TR19 clean, but it slows what reaches the duct.

Do you need kitchen extract cleaning in Rush Green?

Grease in an extract starts as vapour. As the air cools on its way through the duct, the fat condenses and sticks, and the layer grows a little with every meal cooked. The grease filters stop some, never all of it.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer
  • A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate
  • Missing paperwork after a change of operator
  • Rancid smells from grease in the duct

A hospital like Hertford County Hospital, about 2 miles west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

What to look for in a quote

  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • What records you will receive afterwards
  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • Whether they’re fully insured

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

What happens on the day

We are used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Rush Green and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by pictures or a visit.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points and you get a fixed quote.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Finally the system is re-tested and photographed, and the certificate and report follow.

Preparing for the visit

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Let us know about parking and loading

How to get a quote

Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you’ll typically have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.
