Kitchen extract cleaning for sites in Round Street

What happens if it’s left?

TR19® is not law, but the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is. It puts a duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, which in a kitchen includes the grease in the extract. Cleaning to TR19 is the recognised way to show you’ve done it. Planning a trip to Round Street ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

Kitchen extract cleaning in Round Street, done properly

Think of it as a health check for the kitchen’s airways: survey first, clean second, sign-off last. The sign-off is a TR19 certificate with a photo report, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. The work covers horizontal duct runs, plenums and filters and discharge points, and common reasons people get in touch are cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey and a kitchen taken over without any extract records. Some call it canopy cleaning, others extract cleaning or duct cleaning, but a proper TR19® clean in Round Street covers all of it, from the hood to the fan.

Most kitchens in Round Street fall into one of BESA’s three bands: every 3 months for 12–16 hours, every 6 months for 6–12 hours and every 12 months for 2–6 hours, with grease readings setting the real interval.

For a kitchen in or near Round Street, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

What affects the quote in Round Street

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The times the site is available
  • What state the system is in
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you are not sure what’s needed, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is

For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We normally come back within one working day.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Keeping the system healthy

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Clean the grease filters regularly between TR19 cleans
  • Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit
  • File each certificate with the fire risk assessment

After cleaning, we re-test the same points we measured at the start, so you can see the difference in numbers as well as photos. A TR19 certificate follows, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Tell whoever looks after the system when something changes. Drips, odours and fan noise often mean grease is building, and a grease thickness test can confirm it.

What we do, step by step

We are used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time. Somewhere as small as Round Street, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by photos or a visit.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before we start.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Readings and pictures are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

How to prepare

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

Part by part

Canopy and plenum

The canopy catches the vapour, and the plenum behind the filters is where it first condenses. We clean both inside and out, with the filter housing cleaned too.

Extract fan and discharge

Grease that reaches the fan coats the blades and the housing. We isolate it, open it up and degrease it.

Questions from Round Street

Can you come to Round Street after we close?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The site is handed back ready to open. When you phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, mention when the site is quiet.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Round Street?

Round Street is in the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

What do you do to protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before any work starts, and waste is contained as we go. At the end, the area is cleaned down.

What about areas you cannot get to?

Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we explain what access is needed, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

Do you work in Round Street?

Yes. We work in Round Street and across Kent, within our South East and London area. To book, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

Why do insurers care about extract cleaning?

Many policies require TR19 cleaning, and insurers often ask to see the certificate. An insurer may refuse or reduce a claim if there’s no evidence, so it’s worth checking your policy wording.

What paperwork comes with a kitchen extract clean?

A TR19 certificate, plus a full photo report. It records what was cleaned, what wasn’t accessible and the recommended next clean date.

How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost?

Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.
