Extract fan cleaning near Round Street

Extract fan cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Round Street

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract fans since 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and full insurance. If you’re dealing with a fan shaking on its mounts and rough running from the extract fan, we can help, from axial fans, discharge points and in-line fans onwards.

Somewhere as small as Round Street, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That’s why every job is written up in a report with pictures, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What we do, step by step

We are used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes an hour or two for most single fans. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to Round Street run smoothly.

  1. First we locate the fan and agree how it’s safely isolated.
  2. Power to the fan is isolated before anyone touches it.
  3. The impeller and the housing around it are scraped clean.
  4. We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
  5. It’s closed up, run and checked, and pictures go into your report.

How to prepare

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Round Street questions

Is Round Street within the area you cover?

Yes, Round Street is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Round Street?

The local authority for Round Street is Gravesham council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

How often should the extract fan be cleaned?

At least as often as the rest of the extract, which BESA guidance sets by daily cooking hours: every 3, 6 or 12 months. Some fans need attention sooner.

What information do you need?

The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, along with a few photos and any previous report.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site across London and the South East, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.

Does a TR19 kitchen extract clean cover the fan?

Yes. A TR19 Grease clean covers everything from canopy to discharge, and the fan is a key part of it, so it’s cleaned too.

Do we need to close while you work?

Not typically. We work when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends, so the site can carry on as normal.

What a clean will not put right

Extract fan cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • A dirty duct upstream of the fan
  • A cracked or broken impeller (it needs replacing)
  • A fan that’s too small for the system (a design question)

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Centrifugal fans
  • Axial fans
  • Fan housings
  • Roof-mounted fans
  • In-line fans
  • Discharge points

Why it’s worth doing now in Round Street

For a kitchen in Round Street, a noisy, greasy fan is often the first sign the whole system is overdue. Grease on the fan means grease in the duct before it, so it’s worth checking the whole system. Planning a trip to Round Street ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

The cost depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Kitchen extracts in Round Street

The Food Standards Agency lists about 8 bars, pubs and nightclubs as registered food businesses within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Round Street. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Kitchens in Round Street get their food hygiene inspections from Gravesham council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Fire safety in Round Street falls to Kent Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

If you run a café or takeaway near Sole Street station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Cobham Primary School or anywhere near Round Street, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

How we price extract fan cleaning

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • The scale of the work

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Asking for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and photos, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

What we are called out for in Round Street

Poor filters mean a greasier fan. When filters don’t seal, grease goes straight through to the fan, so the fan takes far more than it should.

Clients normally contact us after spotting something like this:

  • A noisy fan that has got louder over time
  • Burning smells from the fan area
  • Less air being pulled from the kitchen
  • An extract fan that vibrates or rattles

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Mary's Room or elsewhere in Round Street, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
  • Whether the price is fixed

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Part by part

Roof-mounted fans

Roof fans sit at the top of the riser. They’re cleaned where safe access allows, with any limits noted.

Inline duct fans

Some fans are built into the duct itself. They’re reached through access panels or by opening the casing, once they’re isolated.
