Kitchen extract cleaning for sites in Redbridge

TR19 kitchen extract cleaning in Redbridge

A closed kitchen is not earning, so the timing of a clean matters. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, or between services where the kitchen has a gap. With the equipment off and cool and the area sheeted, we clean and hand the kitchen back ready for the next service. The work covers canopies and hoods, vertical risers and extract fans, and the jobs we see most are rancid smells from grease in the duct and missing paperwork after a change of operator. Canopy cleaning, extract cleaning and duct cleaning are often used to mean the same thing, but a proper TR19® clean in Redbridge covers all of it, from the hood to the fan.

A kitchen running fryers and chargrills all day builds up grease much faster than one that mostly steams and boils, so the interval is set by what you cook as well as how long.

In a small place like Redbridge, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Aftercare tips

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:

  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
  • Keep the cleaning records where you can find them
  • Keep to the recommended cleaning interval
  • Report grease drips, smells or fan noise straight away

Every clean ends with a photo report. Before and after pictures show each part of the system, alongside a list of what was cleaned, anything out of reach and the recommended next clean date.

Clean the grease filters often, not just on clean day. A filter that is clean and seated properly stops more grease getting into the plenum, which slows build-up further down the system.

Part by part

Grease filters

A filter that is missing or bent lets grease straight past. Each filter is checked as it goes back in, and flag any that do not.

Canopy and plenum

Behind the grease filters sits the plenum, which daily cleaning never reaches. With the filters out, the plenum is scraped and degreased.

Redbridge kitchens: local notes

The coast is only about 1 mile from Redbridge. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. The Food Standards Agency lists about 25 pubs and bars as registered food businesses within about 1.5 miles of central Redbridge. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Kitchens in Redbridge get their food hygiene inspections from Southampton council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Redbridge is Western Community Hospital, about 1.2 miles east. Where a hall near All Saints, or anywhere in Redbridge, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Redbridge Primary School or anywhere near Redbridge, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Redbridge is about 1 mile east of Totton, in Southampton. Anywhere in SO40, we can carry out kitchen extract cleaning at your premises. Our area takes in 40 places across Southampton, large and small.

Postcode districts we cover here for kitchen extract cleaning: SO40, SO16 and SO15. Local streets include Mill Road, Test Lane and Tate Road, all of which we cover for kitchen extract cleaning. Redbridge sits on or near the M271, so getting to you is simple for kitchen extract cleaning. Other places close to Redbridge include Eling (1 mile south-west), Millbrook (1 mile east), Hillyfields (1 mile north), Maybush (1 mile north-east) and Regents Park (1 mile east). Further out, we also cover Southampton (3 miles east), Townhill Park (5 miles east), Midanbury (5 miles east), Thornhill (6 miles east), Chartwell Green (5 miles east) and Harefield (6 miles east).

Why deal with it now?

A clogged extract doesn’t only raise the fire risk. Blocked filters and narrowed ducts slow the airflow, leaving the kitchen hot and smoky and the fan strains to keep up. Smells, dripping grease and condensation often follow. With notice, the visit to Redbridge can be fitted around your bookings and events.

You won’t find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

What staff can safely do

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

When it’s something else

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • A broken extract fan that won’t run
  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing
  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What the work covers

  • Extract fans
  • Plenums and filters
  • Discharge points
  • Canopies and hoods
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Vertical risers

What we do, step by step

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Redbridge before we set off.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by pictures or a visit.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before we start.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Readings and pictures are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

Getting ready for the visit

Questions from Redbridge

Can sea air affect kitchen extract cleaning in Redbridge?

It can. Redbridge is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. Corroded fixings and housings are noted on the report so they can be dealt with.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Redbridge?

Redbridge is in the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

What’s TR19?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

What do I get after the clean?

A TR19 certificate and a photo report. Certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, and the report includes before and after photos, grease readings and the recommended next clean date.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes, of course. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.

Do you work in Redbridge?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes Redbridge.

How much notice should we give?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Southampton. Work can be phased by floor, building or site around the people who use them.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.
