Kitchen duct cleaning in Ratling
We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. If you have grease smells coming from the extract and grease drips onto cooking equipment, we can help, from discharge points, canopies and hoods and vertical risers onwards. Need a TR19 duct cleaning contractor for Ratling? Duct Doctor has covered London and the South East since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member.
We clean every reachable part of the system in Ratling: canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers and fan, then record anything that couldn’t be reached.
Somewhere as small as Ratling, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.
Think of the report as the system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

Common questions in Ratling
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Ratling?
Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Ratling. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Can you work in Ratling outside opening hours?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. It means the site in Ratling keeps running as normal. Just ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.
How long does a kitchen extract clean take?
It takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one. The survey tells us how long your system will need.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. For many sites, photos and a few details are enough, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
What does kitchen extract cleaning cost?
Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. For a quote, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, opening hours and a few pictures.
What do I get after the clean?
A TR19 certificate and a photo report. The certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, and the report includes before and after pictures, grease readings and the recommended next clean date.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, as well as food production and leisure sites.
What do you do to protect the area?
We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before any work starts, and waste is contained as we go. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.
How we price kitchen extract cleaning
The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- How easy every part is to reach
- Any permits to work or inductions
- The condition we find in the survey
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before we start.
Asking for a quote
To speed up the quote, send us:
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- The site address and the type of premises
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you will usually have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
Why it’s worth doing now in Ratling
Every week without a clean adds another layer. BESA guidance says the mean should not go above 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. The longer it’s left, the bigger the job becomes. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Ratling rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Between visits
Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:
- Give the canopy a daily wipe
- Refit filters properly after cleaning
- Diarise the next clean as soon as you get the certificate
- Switch the fan on before cooking starts
When the clean is finished, grease readings are taken again at the same points, so you can see the difference in numbers as well as pictures. Your TR19 certificate is then issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
Stick to the cleaning interval on the certificate. BESA guidance links the minimum interval to daily cooking hours, so a change in hours may mean a change in interval, and grease readings will show it.
When it’s something else
We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so here are the limits:
- An undersized canopy or fan
- A broken extract fan that won’t run
- A damper that sticks or has a damaged link
If you are not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.
Parts of the system we cover
- Extract fans
- Canopies and hoods
- Discharge points
- Horizontal duct runs
- Plenums and filters
- Vertical risers
What your team can do, and what needs us
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that’s where we come in.
A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.
How the visit works
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that is an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time. The timing of a visit to Ratling is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the whole system and its access points.
- Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
- We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
- Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
- The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.
How to prepare
- Clear the space around the work
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
Getting a quote
For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. We usually come back within one working day.

Grease, kitchens and Ratling
There are about 5 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 5 takeaways and sandwich shops within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Ratling, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Any of them cooking under a canopy is sending grease into its ductwork every service. Ratling sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. It’s Dover council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Ratling. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.
A kitchen near Adisham station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval. School kitchens, at schools like St Joseph's Catholic Primary School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Peter or elsewhere in Ratling, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
