What the work involves, part by part

Grease filters

Between TR19 cleans, filters still need regular cleaning and we offer a filter exchange service for that. Keeping them clean helps the rest of the system stay cleaner.

Extract fan and discharge

Attenuators, where fitted, can soak up grease and need attention. We clean what can be reached and note anything that cannot.

About our kitchen extract cleaning in Puddledock

Few kitchens can stop cooking for a day so the extract can be cleaned. Cleans are booked for evenings, overnight or weekends, or between services where the kitchen has a gap. Equipment is switched off and left to cool, the area is sheeted, and the kitchen is handed back ready to cook. The work covers extract fans, discharge points and plenums and filters, and people most often call us about a new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history and rancid smells from grease in the duct. Searching for commercial kitchen extraction cleaning in Puddledock? We’ve been cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East since 2009, with a certificate and photo report after every clean.

BESA sets minimum intervals by hours of cooking a day: 3-monthly for heavy use, 6-monthly for moderate use and yearly for light use, with grease readings setting the real interval.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in Puddledock

Can school kitchens in Puddledock be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. The FSA’s register shows about 11 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Puddledock. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

Which fire authority looks after Puddledock?

That is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Can you price the work without visiting?

In many cases, yes. With good pictures, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.

Do insurers need proof of extract cleaning?

Many insurers ask for proof of regular cleaning to TR19, and many policies require it. An insurer may refuse or reduce a claim if there’s no evidence, so it’s worth checking your policy wording.

Will the clean disrupt our service?

The clean is done when the kitchen isn’t cooking, working evenings, overnight or at weekends to suit you. We need the equipment switched off and cooled first.

What do you do to protect the area?

By covering it before any work starts. The work is kept contained and clean down when we finish.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.

How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost?

Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. For a quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us about the site and its opening hours.

Looking after it afterwards

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
  • Keep the TR19 certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
  • Switch the fan on before cooking starts
  • Flag any change in how the extract sounds or works

If we couldn’t get into part of the duct, the report says so plainly. That is part of an honest TR19 clean, not a failing, and new access panels can be fitted so the next clean covers it.

Tell whoever looks after the system when something changes. Grease dripping from the canopy, a burning smell or a fan that sounds rough are all signs of build-up, and a grease thickness test can confirm it.

Grease, kitchens and Puddledock

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 17 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 12 takeaways and sandwich shops within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Puddledock. Every kitchen in that count with a canopy has a full extract system, canopy to discharge, to keep clear of grease. The fire and rescue service for Puddledock is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. It’s Dartford council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Puddledock. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Hall Place and Gardens is about 2.2 miles north), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. For schools such as Hextable Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like West Hill Hospital about 2.5 miles north-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Parking and loading at the site

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

What to send for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:

  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Any previous report or certificate

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To start, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

What staff can safely do

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Kent. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Why act early in Puddledock

Environmental health officers inspect food businesses, in Puddledock as everywhere else, and a greasy canopy or dripping filters won’t go unnoticed. Keeping the extract clean helps the whole kitchen pass muster. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.

The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

What we do, step by step

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. The timing of a visit to Puddledock is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the whole system and its access points.
  2. We record grease levels at set points, then fix the price.
  3. We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
  4. Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Clear the space around the work
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
