Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Puddledock
The ductwork is where an extract clean is won or lost. Without enough access panels, long stretches can go years without being touched. We open up every reachable section and record any we can’t reach, so you know exactly where you stand. We’re often asked to deal with high readings at a recent grease test and ductwork that has never been cleaned, on multi-storey ducts, horizontal duct runs and attenuators.
In a small place like Puddledock, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
Good records are part of the job. You get a written report with photos after every visit, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

When it’s something else
Ductwork cleaning cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before work begins. It doesn’t solve:
- A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
- Faulty fire dampers
- Ductwork that is corroded, split or holed (that needs a ductwork contractor)
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will say what we think before booking.
What the work covers
- Access panels
- Horizontal duct runs
- Attenuators
- Multi-storey ducts
- Vertical risers
- Bends and junctions
What the work involves, part by part
Horizontal duct runs
Long horizontal runs need access panels at regular intervals. Any stretch out of reach is noted and can fit extra panels.
Attenuators and discharge
Near the discharge, the air has cooled the most, so it can collect more grease than expected. We include it in the clean and the readings.
Common problems we fix in Puddledock
Wherever the kitchen is, in Puddledock or elsewhere, the duct fills in the same way: hours of cooking, the type of food and how well the filters are kept. BESA guidance sets minimum intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months depending on daily use.
These are the problems we see most often:
- Fat dripping from the ductwork
- An insurer asking for TR19 evidence
- Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
- Heavy grease at the base of a riser
If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Hextable Primary School or anywhere near Puddledock, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
- What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
- How they set the interval to the next visit
What your team can do, and what needs us
Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
Puddledock questions
Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Puddledock?
Food hygiene inspections in Puddledock are carried out by Dartford council. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Do you clean school canteen extracts around Puddledock out of term?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. There are about 11 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Puddledock. Send us your term dates when you call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we will fit the work in.
How much notice do you need?
The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. We normally quote within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.
Can you quote from pictures?
Yes, where the pictures show enough. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.
How do you clean inside the ductwork?
Through access panels along the duct. Heavy grease is scraped out by hand, then the surfaces are degreased with a method that suits the deposit, such as degreasers, hot water or steam.
Are you fully insured?
Yes, we’re fully insured. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.
What’s TR19?
A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
Where does the waste go?
It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.
What we do, step by step
Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. The timing of a visit to Puddledock is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.
- First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
- Set points along the runs are tested for grease.
- Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
- Horizontal runs and risers are then degreased by the method that suits the deposit.
- Post-clean readings and pictures go into the report, with any unreachable section listed.
How to prepare
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
How to get a quote
Quotes are quick. Send a few details and photos, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
Advice
Grease, kitchens and Puddledock
The Food Standards Agency lists about 8 pubs and bars as registered food businesses across Puddledock and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Puddledock is covered by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. Kitchens in Puddledock get their food hygiene inspections from Dartford council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Peter, or anywhere in Puddledock, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Puddledock (Hall Place and Gardens is about 2.2 miles north), fitting access panels needs care.

Why it’s worth doing now in Puddledock
Old grease in a duct for a kitchen in Puddledock doesn’t stay soft. Heat and age turn it into a thick, stubborn crust, which makes each delayed clean a bigger one. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
The cost depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

For landlords and multi-site operators
If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.
When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
