About our kitchen extract cleaning in Minstead
A closed kitchen isn’t earning, so the timing of a clean matters. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, or during holidays where a site closes for them. Equipment is switched off and left to cool, the area is sheeted, and the kitchen is handed back ready to cook. We are often asked to deal with a system with no record of a TR19 clean and years of baked-on grease in the ducts, across discharge points, plenums and filters and horizontal duct runs. Searching for commercial kitchen extraction cleaning in Minstead? We’ve been cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member.
We clean every reachable part of the system in Minstead: canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers and fan, and the discharge where it can be reached.
In a small place like Minstead, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
Good records are part of the job. You get a written report with pictures after each visit, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. File it in your maintenance log so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

Kitchen extracts in Minstead
Look up Minstead on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 3 restaurants, cafés and canteens in and around Minstead, up to about a mile and a half out. Those that fry, grill or roast under a canopy need their extracts cleaned at intervals set by how long they cook. The fire and rescue service for Minstead is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Food hygiene inspections in Minstead are the job of New Forest council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of All Saints or elsewhere in Minstead, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Around Minstead

What your team can do, and what needs us
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.
Minstead: your questions answered
Which council inspects kitchens in Minstead?
Food hygiene inspections in Minstead are carried out by New Forest council. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Minstead?
It’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Minstead. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
What accreditations do you hold?
Our work is to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, and certificates go through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
Strictly, the legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, not from TR19. In practice, TR19 is how kitchens show they’re managing grease, and many insurers ask for proof of it.
How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost?
It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. For a quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with the site type, opening hours and a few pictures.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.
What about areas you can’t get to?
Anything we can’t reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes. For many sites, photos and a few details are enough, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
Common problems we fix in Minstead
How fast grease builds up depends mostly on how long the kitchen cooks each day. Under BESA guidance, heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day means a clean at least every 3 months, moderate use every 6 months and light use every 12. They are minimums: measured grease levels set the real interval.
The symptoms we’re asked about most are:
- A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate
- Cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey
- An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer
- Heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs
Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Ashurst Hospital is the nearest hospital to Minstead, about 3.3 miles east.

Why act early in Minstead
A clogged extract doesn’t only raise the fire risk. Filters block, airflow drops and the kitchen gets hotter and smokier, while the fan works harder to move less air. Grease drips, smells and condensation are common next. Rural sites cannot always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

How it works
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one, and we clear up before we go. Somewhere like Minstead, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.
- We start with a survey, so we know every part of the system before we quote.
- Grease readings are taken at set points and you get a fixed quote.
- On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
- The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
- We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.
Getting ready for the visit
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Find the previous report, if there is one
Getting a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Related advice
How we price kitchen extract cleaning
The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:
- The condition of the system
- Travel, parking and unloading
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- The number of sites or systems
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- The postcode and the type of business
We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.
What a clean will not put right
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- A fan motor that has burnt out
- Faulty fire dampers in the duct
- Fat blocking the kitchen drains
If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.
