Need kitchen extract cleaning in Ladwell?

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Kitchen duct cleaning in Ladwell

We treat an extract system much as a doctor treats a patient: diagnose with a survey, treat with a thorough clean, then sign it off. The sign-off is a TR19 certificate with a photo report, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Common call-outs are for a kitchen taken over without any extract records and heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs, on plenums and filters, canopies and hoods and vertical risers. When a restaurant in Ladwell asks for duct cleaning, it’s nearly always the kitchen extract they mean, and that is our main job: canopy to fan, to TR19® Grease.

Before we clean, we look at where the grease is: wet film or deposit thickness readings show which parts of the duct need the most attention, and the same readings after the clean show the result.

For a kitchen in or near Ladwell, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

How the visit works

A visit follows the same order every time: sheeting and protection first, make the system safe, carry out the kitchen extract cleaning, clear away and leave you the report. On site, the work takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Ladwell before we set off.

  1. We survey the system first, from your pictures and details or on a site visit.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points and you get a fixed quote.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Finally the system is re-tested and photographed, and the certificate and report follow.

Multi-site and managed buildings

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

When it’s something else

We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • A canopy that is too small or a system that was badly designed
  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains
  • Ductwork that’s corroded, split or leaking (that is for a ductwork contractor)

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Plenums and filters
  • Discharge points
  • Canopies and hoods
  • Vertical risers
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Extract fans

Different parts, different methods

Extract fan and discharge

The fan pulls the air through the whole system, and grease that gets past everything else ends up on its blades. We isolate it, open it up and degrease it.

Schools, hospitals and care homes

Some healthcare kitchens never fully close. We plan the clean around meal times and work in a contained, tidy way with as little disruption as possible.

Kitchen extract cleaning in Ladwell: the local picture

Food Standards Agency records include about 6 bars, pubs and nightclubs in Ladwell and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Ladwell sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. In Ladwell, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Test Valley council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

Common questions in Ladwell

Which fire authority looks after Ladwell?

It’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Ladwell. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Ladwell?

Food hygiene inspections in Ladwell are carried out by Test Valley council. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Can you price the work without visiting?

In many cases, yes. With good photos, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.

How long does a kitchen extract clean take?

Allow anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system. We’ll confirm the time when we quote.

What about areas you can’t get to?

The report shows them clearly. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, which we can install.

How often should a kitchen extract be cleaned?

It depends on how many hours a day the kitchen cooks. BESA’s minimums run from every 3 months for heavy use to every 12 months for light use. Your report gives a recommended next clean date.

What types of premises do you cover?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.

What’s TR19?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

Aftercare tips

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Keep grease collection points emptied
  • Keep to the recommended cleaning interval
  • Keep the baffle filters clean
  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day

Any section without access is marked on the report. A TR19 report should record what wasn’t cleaned as well as what was, and we can fit access panels so it’s reached next time.

Regular filter cleaning is the simplest thing a kitchen can do. Clean, well-fitted filters catch more fat before it reaches the duct, so the ductwork stays cleaner for longer.

Common problems we fix in Ladwell

We often find duct sections that haven’t been cleaned since they were installed. Most of the time it’s because there were never enough access panels, so nobody could get to them. That hidden grease keeps building where nobody looks.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • An extract that has never been cleaned to TR19
  • Heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs
  • Grease dripping from the canopy or filters
  • An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer

Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of All Saints or anywhere around Ladwell, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • Whether VAT is included
  • What insurance they carry
