Your questions about kitchen deep cleaning in Bitterne Park

Which environmental health team covers Bitterne Park?

That’s Southampton council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Bitterne Park. Keep the dates of your last deep clean and grease trap visit with your food safety records, ready if an officer asks.

Do you work overnight in Bitterne Park?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in Bitterne Park does not have to lose a day’s trading. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Every job is surveyed first, from your photos and details, or with a visit where needed. A fixed quote follows.

Which accreditations do you hold?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’re fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.

What happens to the waste?

It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.

What do you do to protect the area?

We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before work begins, and waste is contained as we go. At the end, the area is cleaned down.

Kitchen deep cleaning in Bitterne Park

Many kitchens book a deep clean alongside their TR19® extract clean. The extract is cleaned inside, and the kitchen around it is cleaned too, so the whole space is done in one go. It works on its own as well, between extract cleans. Common call-outs are for grease stains on walls near the cooking line and build-up behind fryers and ovens, across floors and floor drains, stainless steel surfaces and ranges and ovens.

In a smaller place like Bitterne Park, commercial kitchens are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen. Smaller kitchens still collect grease behind equipment and in the drains.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with pictures of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Leave it or put it right?

An inspection can come at any time. Build-up in hidden areas is the kind of thing inspectors notice, however good the daily routine. Regular deep cleans keep the kitchen inspection-ready. A visit arranged in advance is far less disruptive than a callout on a busy day.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

What we do, step by step

Each visit runs to the same pattern: sheeting and protection first, isolate whatever needs isolating, do the work, tidy up and leave you the report. On site, the work takes a full shift for most kitchens, longer for a large one. Tell us when your site near Bitterne Park is quiet and the visit will be booked for then.

  1. We look round the kitchen and agree exactly what’s included.
  2. Cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and the area is prepared.
  3. We work from the top down, starting with ceilings and walls.
  4. The equipment, and the floor and walls around it, are degreased and cleaned.
  5. The floors are done last, then everything is checked with you.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Clear loose items from the work area

Advice

Different parts, different methods

School and care home kitchens

Care home and hospital kitchens cannot close for long. We plan the work to fit.

Behind and under equipment

Behind and beneath the cooking line, grease and food debris collect. Where equipment can be moved safely, we move it and clean underneath.

What we are called out for in Bitterne Park

Cooking releases grease with every service. Some is caught by the extract but the rest lands on nearby surfaces. Over weeks and months, it builds into a sticky layer.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • A new kitchen tenant inheriting a dirty kitchen
  • Grime in corners that pests could exploit
  • Grease built up on walls and ceilings
  • Preparation for an EHO inspection

For schools such as St Mary's Independent School, deep cleans and grease trap work are normally booked for the holidays.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether the price is fixed
  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours

Our hiring checklist

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.

Food Standards Agency records include about 49 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 5 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses across Bitterne Park and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Pub and hotel kitchens get the same build-up behind equipment and in the grease trap as any other. Kitchens in Bitterne Park get their food hygiene inspections from Southampton council. The state of floors, drains and hard-to-reach corners all feeds into the inspection. Having the dates of the last deep clean to hand saves digging for them on the day.

What a clean won’t put right

We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • Appliance breakdowns
  • An active pest infestation, which needs a pest control contractor
  • The inside of the extract system

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will say what we think before booking.

Where we work

  • Stainless steel surfaces
  • Ranges and ovens
  • Fryers and grills
  • Walls and ceilings
  • Behind and under equipment
  • Floors and floor drains

Aftercare tips

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Repair worn surfaces that trap grime
  • Wipe splashes before they harden
  • Pull out equipment for cleaning where it’s safe to do so
  • Write down what gets cleaned and when

It’s easy to set the next date while we’re there. Regular deep cleans keep the kitchen consistently clean all year round.

Grease that is left only gets harder to remove. A deep clean now saves a much bigger job later, and keeps the kitchen ready for an inspection.
