Grease trap cleaning in Telscombe

Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Telscombe

Smells from the sink, gurgling drains or slow drainage all point to the grease trap. We find the trap, empty it and clean it, then check the water flows properly. Typical jobs include grease setting in the kitchen pipework and a regular cleaning plan for the grease trap, on school and care home kitchens, kitchen waste pipes and restaurants and takeaways.

In a place like Telscombe, kitchens often sit in older buildings with older drains. Smells and slow drains are the usual warning signs.

We have been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

What affects the cost of grease trap cleaning

Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • How big the system is
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.

What we need to know

We can often survey from photos. Try to include:

  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • The postcode and the type of business

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your pictures and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before work begins.

For landlords and multi-site operators

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

What grease trap cleaning looks like in Telscombe

There are about 17 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 13 sandwich bars and takeaways in and around Telscombe, up to about a mile and a half out, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. A grease trap in kitchens like these fills steadily and needs emptying before it overflows. Food hygiene inspections in Telscombe are the job of Lewes council’s environmental health team. They look at the cleanliness of the whole kitchen: walls, floors, ceilings and equipment. A record of each deep clean helps show the kitchen is kept in order.

Half-term is a good time for school kitchens, at schools like Telscombe Cliffs Community Primary School for instance, to have the grease trap emptied and the kitchen deep cleaned. Hall kitchens near The Parish Church of St Lawrence or elsewhere in Telscombe may have older sinks and drains, so a grease trap check is worth adding to a deep clean. If you run event catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Monk's House is about 2.7 miles north-east), a deep clean before or after the busy season is worth planning.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before any work starts, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes anything from under an hour to a few hours, depending on the trap. Getting to the system matters more than parking in a place like Telscombe, so let us know how to reach it.

  1. We agree a time when the sinks are not needed.
  2. We open the trap and look at its condition.
  3. We remove the grease layer and settled solids.
  4. We clean the baffles, inlet and outlet.
  5. The trap is closed, tested and the next clean discussed.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Clear the space around the work

Your questions about grease trap cleaning in Telscombe

Can a school kitchen in Telscombe be done out of term time?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 2 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Telscombe. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Is Telscombe within the area you cover?

Yes. Telscombe is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.

What’s the right interval for grease trap cleaning?

That depends on the trap and the kitchen. A small trap fills more quickly than a large one, and busy kitchens fill them faster still. We’ll recommend a schedule once we’ve seen it.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

Anything we can’t reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

Which sectors do you work in?

Commercial premises of every kind: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. Work is timed around how each site runs.

What happens to the waste?

We take it away when we go. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.

Which accreditations do you hold?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We have been trading since 2009 and we’re fully insured.

Looking after it afterwards

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:

  • Make sure the trap can be reached easily
  • Collect waste cooking oil separately
  • Keep strainers in every sink
  • Wipe grease off pans before washing them

Between cleans, keep food scraps out of the sink. Use strainers in the sink plugholes before they reach the trap.

Fat that escapes the trap hardens in the pipework. Once it’s there, it needs a drainage contractor to clear so prevention is the easier route.
