How we handle grease trap cleaning in Sunnymeads

Grease is behind most blocked kitchen drains. Down the line, they can add to fatbergs in the sewer. A grease trap that’s emptied and cleaned regularly holds them back. We’re often asked to deal with a routine grease trap service and drains that gurgle and bubble, across kitchen waste pipes, under-sink grease traps and school and care home kitchens.

Somewhere as small as Sunnymeads, the kitchens that need a deep clean are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still needs the occasional deep clean and its grease trap kept clear.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

What grease trap cleaning cannot fix

We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Blockages further down the drainage network
  • Collapsed or damaged drains, which need a drainage contractor
  • A leaking sink waste or trap connection

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Where we work

  • Pot wash sinks
  • Under-sink grease traps
  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • Inline grease traps

How the job changes from site to site

Inline grease traps

Inline traps may be under a floor panel or in a cupboard. We check how to reach it before the visit.

Grease interceptors

Interceptors take longer to clean and we plan the visit accordingly.

What we do, step by step

Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit, and we clear up before we go. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to Sunnymeads can be planned properly.

  1. A visit is booked around your service.
  2. The trap is opened up and checked.
  3. We remove the grease layer and settled solids.
  4. The inside, baffles and outlet are cleaned.
  5. We close it up, check it drains and suggest when it needs cleaning again.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

Advice

Do you need grease trap cleaning in Sunnymeads?

Hot water and detergent carry grease further than you’d expect. When it cools, the grease hardens, often in the trap or the pipe beyond.

Any of these means the system needs a check-up:

  • Grease setting in the kitchen pipework
  • Drains that gurgle and bubble
  • A regular cleaning plan for the grease trap
  • A slow-draining kitchen sink

If you run a kitchen near Sunnymeads station with long trading hours, grease builds up faster behind equipment and in the trap.

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

For landlords and multi-site operators

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

What affects the cost of grease trap cleaning

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • How easy every part is to reach
  • The times the site is available
  • How big the system is
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

What we need to know

What to send for a quote:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Problems your staff have spotted

For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll normally have a quote within one working day.

Food Standards Agency records list about 23 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 8 sandwich bars and takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Sunnymeads. Fat from washing up sets hard in pipes, and kitchens like these produce plenty of it. Environmental health officers from Windsor and Maidenhead council inspect food businesses in Sunnymeads. The state of floors, drains and hard-to-reach corners all feeds into the inspection. Having the dates of the last deep clean to hand saves digging for them on the day.

Healthcare kitchens cook through the year, so a deep clean has to be fitted around meals; King Edward VII Hospital, about 2.4 miles west, is the nearest hospital to Sunnymeads. Half-term is a good time for school kitchens, at schools like Wraysbury Primary School for instance, to have the grease trap emptied and the kitchen deep cleaned.

Sunnymeads questions

Can you come to Sunnymeads after we close?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The site is handed back ready to open. When you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, mention when the site is quiet.

Can you work in school kitchens in Sunnymeads during the holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 12 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Sunnymeads. Send us your term dates when you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we will fit the work in.

Will I get paperwork for my records?

Yes. It’s your proof that the work was done: a written, dated record with photos of what we did and anything we couldn’t access.

What about areas you cannot get to?

Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with photos where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Can you clear our blocked drains as well?

That depends on the cause. A full trap is a common cause, and cleaning it can help but grease set further down the drains needs jetting by a drainage specialist.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.

Does the law say we must follow TR19?

No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19® is the recognised way to show grease is under control.

Why deal with it now?

A smelly, overflowing trap attracts pests. A clean trap is less of an attraction as part of a clean kitchen. It’s simpler to plan the work at Sunnymeads now than to arrange it in a hurry later.

You won’t find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.
