In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

How we handle grease trap cleaning in South Wimbledon

A clean trap means flowing drains and no foul smells. We empty the built-up grease and food solids and the chambers and baffles cleaned, and check the trap is working properly. The work covers pot wash sinks, kitchen waste pipes and inline grease traps, and people most often call us about drains clogged with fat and sinks that drain slowly.

London kitchens work hard in small spaces, so grease collects behind equipment, on ceilings and in drains and grease traps. In South Wimbledon, deep cleans and grease trap work are normally done overnight.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a dated report with photos of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before any work starts, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a short visit for a small trap and longer for an inline unit or interceptor. Many London buildings have a managing agent, a security desk or a permit-to-work system, so tell us who to contact in South Wimbledon.

  1. We locate the trap and check how it’s fitted.
  2. Sinks feeding the trap are taken out of use.
  3. Grease and solids are removed from the trap.
  4. The chambers and baffles are cleaned.
  5. We refit it, run water through and remove the waste.

Questions from South Wimbledon

Can a school kitchen in South Wimbledon be done out of term time?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. The FSA’s register shows about 38 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of South Wimbledon. You can call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the dates the site is empty.

Do you work at weekends in South Wimbledon?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. Your customers, staff or residents in South Wimbledon needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you are closed and we’ll book within them.

What happens if a grease trap isn’t cleaned?

Once it’s full, grease passes straight through. The grease hardens in the pipes, leading to blocked drains and smells and can end up adding to sewer blockages.

What accreditations do you have?

We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

What about areas you cannot get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

What’s TR19?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

What do you do with the waste?

We take it away. There’s nothing left for your team to deal with once the clean is done.

When to call us in South Wimbledon

Fats, oils and grease from cooking and washing up go down the sink. In the trap, they cool and separate, and the layer gets thicker day by day.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Grease setting in the kitchen pipework
  • Foul odours from the grease trap
  • An under-sink trap that keeps filling up
  • Drains that gurgle and bubble

For busy kitchens close to Wimbledon station, deep cleans and grease trap work can be done after closing.

Before you book anyone

  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
  • Whether they recommend a next date

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

Different parts, different methods

School, care home and staff kitchens

In schools, grease traps can be cleaned when the kitchen is closed or after lunch service.

Grease interceptors

Bigger kitchens may have a larger grease interceptor. They hold more grease and solids but they still need cleaning.

Grease trap cleaning in South Wimbledon: local notes

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 34 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 7 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of South Wimbledon. Where they run a kitchen, it needs the same deep cleaning and grease trap care as any restaurant. Kitchens in South Wimbledon get their food hygiene inspections from Merton council. The state of floors, drains and hard-to-reach corners all feeds into the inspection. Photos and dates from each deep clean make a useful record. In London, deep cleans and grease trap work are normally done overnight, so the kitchen opens as normal the next day.

A summer deep clean suits schools such as Holy Trinity CofE Primary School, as the kitchen can be stripped back with no lunches to serve. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as St George's Hospital (about 1 mile north-east), cook for long hours, so deep cleans and grease trap work are planned around patients’ meals.

How we price grease trap cleaning

We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. The quote depends on:

  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

What to send for a quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Call or email with a few details and you’ll normally have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.
