Grease trap cleaning across Ringwood

Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Ringwood

Once a trap is full, grease passes straight through. Further down the pipe, the grease cools and hardens and the result is blocked drains and bad smells. Regular cleaning keeps it working. The work covers under-sink grease traps, restaurants and takeaways and kitchen waste pipes, and people most often call us about a bad smell from the sinks or drains and a full, neglected grease trap.

Work in a smaller place like Ringwood is planned around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

A written report with pictures follows every visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Honest limits

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • Plumbing leaks around the sink
  • Drains that are cracked or have collapsed
  • A trap undersized for the amount of cooking

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Inline grease traps
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Pot wash sinks
  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • Under-sink grease traps

Part by part

Inline grease traps

Access to an inline trap can be in a floor or cupboard. We check how to reach it before the visit.

Baffles and outlets

Every clean includes the baffles, inlet and outlet so the trap works as it should.

What we do, step by step

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. Because the survey comes first, a visit to Ringwood can usually be finished without a second trip.

  1. First, we locate the grease trap and look at the pipework around it.
  2. Nothing drains into the trap while it’s open.
  3. The trap is emptied of grease and food waste.
  4. Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
  5. Once it’s refitted, water is run through to check it drains, and we take the waste with us.

Preparing for the visit

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use

Advice

When to call us in Ringwood

Every pan and plate washed sends grease towards the drain. In the trap, they cool and separate and the grease layer grows.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Grease setting in the kitchen pipework
  • An under-sink unit that needs regular emptying
  • Sinks that drain slowly
  • Scheduled grease trap emptying

If you run event catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Avon Tyrrell House is about 3.6 miles south-east), a deep clean before or after the busy season is worth planning.

What to look for in a quote

  • What insurance they carry
  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
  • Whether VAT is included
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos

Our hiring checklist

How we price grease trap cleaning

The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:

  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • How many systems or sites are involved

What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

What we need to know

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Commercial kitchens in Ringwood

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 36 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 8 sandwich bars and takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Ringwood. Kitchens like these wash fat, oil and grease down the sink every day, and a grease trap is what stops it reaching the sewer. In Ringwood, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from New Forest council. They look at the cleanliness of the whole kitchen: walls, floors, ceilings and equipment. A cleaning log that includes deep cleans and grease trap visits shows the work is planned.

A summer deep clean suits schools such as Ringwood School, as the kitchen can be stripped back with no lunches to serve. Hall and church kitchens, near Trinity Congregational Church or anywhere around Ringwood, are used by many hands, and periodic deep cleans and grease trap visits keep them in order.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Ringwood

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we will send a fixed quote.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:

  • Collect waste cooking oil separately
  • Book trap cleans at a set interval
  • Avoid pouring boiling water down to shift grease
  • Use strainers in the sink plugholes

The waste we remove leaves with us. There’s no greasy waste left on site when we’re done.

Grease that gets past the trap sets in the drains. Clearing it then is a bigger job so prevention is the easier route.

Common questions in Ringwood

Do you clean school kitchens in Ringwood in the summer holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 4 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Ringwood. You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the dates the site is empty.

Do you work overnight in Ringwood?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. That way a site in Ringwood does not have to lose a day’s trading. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Will I get paperwork for my records?

Yes. It’s the record insurers and inspectors ask to see: a dated report with photos, listing the work and any areas we couldn’t reach.

What do you do with the waste?

It’s removed from site when we leave. Your staff don’t have to handle it once the clean is done.

Is TR19 cleaning required by law?

No, not in itself. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19® as the benchmark, and many insurance policies ask for proof of TR19® cleaning. The legal duty sits in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in England and Wales.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

How often should a grease trap be cleaned?

That depends on the trap and the kitchen. A small trap fills more quickly than a large one and the busier the kitchen, the faster it fills. We will recommend a schedule once we have seen it.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.
