Grease trap cleaning in Newport, done properly
Fats, oils and grease are the main cause of blocked kitchen drains. Further on, grease can build into fatbergs in the sewer. A grease trap that’s emptied and cleaned regularly keeps them out of the drains. The work covers school and care home kitchens, under-sink grease traps and restaurants and takeaways, and common reasons people get in touch are a slow-draining kitchen sink and gurgling from the sink waste.
Grease traps fill up with fat and food scraps, and once it’s full, fat passes into the drains. Regular emptying and cleaning stops the smells and blockages that follow.
The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Newport: your questions answered
Can you work in Newport outside opening hours?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Newport needn’t be disturbed. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Can you work in school kitchens in Newport during the holidays?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. Around Newport, the Food Standards Agency lists about 18 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Just call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your term dates and we will plan around them.
Will I get paperwork for my records?
Yes. It’s the record insurers and inspectors ask to see: a dated report with pictures, listing the work and any areas we couldn’t reach.
How often should a grease trap be cleaned?
It varies. The interval depends on how quickly your trap fills and we’ll advise on timing.
Which accreditations do you hold?
We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.
Where does the waste go?
We contain it and take it with us. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it does not spread.
What types of premises do you cover?
Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. We fit the work around how the site operates.
How much notice should we give?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
What happens if it’s left?
A full grease trap lets grease through to the drains. It hardens on the pipe walls, until the drain blocks. Cleaning the trap regularly is far easier than clearing a blocked drain. A small fault found now is a quick job; the same fault found later can close the site.
Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.

What staff can safely do
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
How the job changes from site to site
Inline grease traps
Access to an inline trap can be in a floor or cupboard. We ask about access when we quote.
Restaurant and takeaway kitchens
Busy kitchens cannot afford a blocked drain. Regular trap cleaning helps prevent it.
Looking after it afterwards
No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:
- Let us know if the kitchen gets busier
- Keep access to the trap clear
- Book trap cleans at a set interval
- Act on gurgling or smelly drains
Keep used oil out of the drains and the trap won’t fill as quickly. It’s the single easiest way to help.
An overfull trap lets grease pass. Regular emptying keeps it working and avoids a blockage.
What happens on the day
There’s very little for your team to do on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. We arrive in Newport once you’ve closed and leave the site ready for the morning.
- We find the trap and check how it’s connected.
- We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
- Built-up fat, oil and grease is removed from the trap.
- We clean the chambers, baffles and connections.
- The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.
Getting ready for the visit
- Clear the space around the work
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
Getting a quote
To get a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll normally have a quote within one working day.
