Grease trap cleaning in Mowshurst

Grease trap cleaning in Mowshurst, done properly

Grease traps sit between the sinks and the drain, holding back fats, oils and grease. Cooling water lets the grease rise and separate while the water carries on to the drain. Eventually it fills and has to be emptied and cleaned. If you are dealing with drains clogged with fat and gurgling drains in the kitchen, we can help.

Work in a small place like Mowshurst starts with agreeing a date and access, and the deep clean is the same as anywhere: walls, floors, ceilings and equipment.

We’ve been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Grease set hard in the drain run
  • Leaking pipework or sink wastes, which need a plumber
  • Collapsed or damaged drains, which need a drainage contractor

If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Under-sink grease traps
  • Inline grease traps
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • Pot wash sinks

What we do, step by step

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Mowshurst before we set off.

  1. We agree a time when the sinks aren’t needed.
  2. The trap is opened up and checked.
  3. We remove the grease layer and settled solids.
  4. The inside, baffles and outlet are cleaned.
  5. We close it up, check it drains and suggest when it needs cleaning again.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas

Related advice

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.

What affects the quote in Mowshurst

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Site rules, permits and inductions

You will not find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

What we need to know

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:

  • Any previous report or certificate
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and photos, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Why act early in Mowshurst

Pouring hot water or chemicals down a slow drain is a common quick fix. That only moves the grease further down the pipe, where it sets again. Emptying and cleaning the trap deals with the source. Planning a trip to Mowshurst ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

What the work involves, part by part

Grease interceptors

Interceptors separate grease the same way, on a larger scale. Grease floats and solids sink.

School, care home and staff kitchens

Kitchens with fixed mealtimes build up grease more predictably. Planned cleaning fits their routine.

Mowshurst kitchens: local notes

Look up Mowshurst on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 13 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 10 sandwich bars and takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Mowshurst. Kitchens like these wash fat, oil and grease down the sink every day, and a grease trap is what stops it reaching the sewer. Kitchens in Mowshurst get their food hygiene inspections from Sevenoaks council. They look at the cleanliness of the whole kitchen: walls, floors, ceilings and equipment. Having the dates of the last deep clean to hand saves digging for them on the day.

A summer deep clean suits schools such as Edenbridge Primary School, as the kitchen can be stripped back with no lunches to serve. Where a church or community hall near Church of St Peter and St Paul, or anywhere in Mowshurst, has a kitchen used by volunteers, a periodic deep clean keeps it ready for the next event. If you run a kitchen near Edenbridge station with long trading hours, grease builds up faster behind equipment and in the trap.

Aftercare tips

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Avoid pouring boiling water down to shift grease
  • Let us know if the kitchen gets busier
  • Scrape plates and pans into the bin before washing up
  • Keep waste oil out of the drains

We will suggest when the trap should be cleaned again. It’s based on how full it was and how much the kitchen cooks.

If the sinks are slow or smelly, the trap may be full. Acting at this stage typically prevents a blockage later.
