Grease trap cleaning in Great Hollands

How we handle grease trap cleaning in Great Hollands

Grease trap cleaning keeps the drains running and the smells away. We empty the built-up grease and food solids, clean the inside and the baffles and the trap checked before we leave. The work covers under-sink grease traps, restaurants and takeaways and pot wash sinks, and people most often call us about an interceptor full of grease and solids and drains that gurgle and bubble.

In a place like Great Hollands, kitchens often sit in older buildings with older drains. A blocked drain or a smelly grease trap is usually the first sign.

Good records are part of the job. You get a written report with photos after each visit, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

Signs you need grease trap cleaning in Great Hollands

For a kitchen in Great Hollands or anywhere else, the trap is out of sight and out of mind. Tucked away under the sink or below the floor, it’s often ignored until something goes wrong.

Look out for any of the following:

  • An overdue grease trap
  • Scheduled grease trap emptying
  • Foul odours from the grease trap
  • An under-sink trap that keeps filling up

If you run a care home or healthcare kitchen near Great Hollands (the nearest hospital is Pinewood Hospital, about 1.4 miles south-west), a grease trap on a set schedule avoids a blocked drain mid-service.

What your quote should include

  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours

Our hiring checklist

What the work involves, part by part

Inline grease traps

Access to an inline trap can be in a floor or cupboard. We check how to reach it before the visit.

Restaurant and takeaway kitchens

Busy kitchens with lots of washing-up fill traps fast. They often need the most frequent cleaning.

Fixed quotes for grease trap cleaning in Great Hollands

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • How big the system is
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • The condition of the system

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

What we need to know

What to send for a quote:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Any previous report or certificate

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

What grease trap cleaning can’t fix

Grease trap cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • A trap undersized for the amount of cooking
  • Grease deep in the drains, which needs jetting by a drainage contractor
  • Blockages further down the drainage network

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Where we work

  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Pot wash sinks
  • Under-sink grease traps
  • Inline grease traps

Great Hollands questions

Can you come to Great Hollands after we close?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. The work in Great Hollands can fit around your hours. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Do you work in villages like Great Hollands?

Yes, Great Hollands is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

What does a grease trap clean cost?

The price depends on the trap and the schedule. Get in touch and we will send you a fixed quote so you know the cost up front.

Which accreditations do you hold?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We have been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. For many sites, photos and a few details are enough, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

What do you do with what you remove?

We take it away when we go. While we work, it’s kept contained to keep the area clean.

What types of grease trap do you clean?

Under-sink units, inline traps and interceptors are all covered. Let us know what’s fitted and we will plan around it.

How it works

Protection comes first: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. In a place like Great Hollands, we fit the visit around your hours.

  1. We find the trap and check how it’s connected.
  2. We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
  3. We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
  4. Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
  5. Once it’s refitted, water is run through to check it drains, and we take the waste with us.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

Getting a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before work begins.

Related advice

Between visits

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Don’t store things on top of the trap
  • Mention any increase in cooking
  • Book trap cleans at a set interval
  • Wipe grease off pans before washing them

Once the trap is cleaned and refitted, the sinks can be used straight away. Water is run through to check everything flows before we leave.

If the kitchen has got busier, the trap fills faster. Booking cleans more often keeps the drains flowing.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
