Grease trap cleaning in Elsted Marsh

Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Elsted Marsh

A grease trap is the kitchen drain’s first line of protection. Kept clean, it does its job quietly but left too long, it causes trouble. Routine cleaning keeps it in good working order. Typical jobs include drains that gurgle and bubble and an overdue grease trap, across school and care home kitchens, kitchen waste pipes and inline grease traps.

For a kitchen in or near Elsted Marsh, the visit is planned ahead, around opening times and the journey, and the deep clean is the same as anywhere: walls, floors, ceilings and equipment.

Each visit ends with a written report and photos, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What the work involves, part by part

Under-sink grease traps

An under-sink trap is out of sight. A full one shows itself with a slow, smelly sink.

Restaurant and takeaway kitchens

Busy kitchens with lots of washing-up fill traps fast. They often need the most frequent cleaning.

What a clean won’t put right

In fairness, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • Broken pipework below ground
  • Plumbing leaks around the sink
  • A grease trap that is too small for the kitchen

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What we work on in Elsted Marsh

  • Under-sink grease traps
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • Inline grease traps
  • Pot wash sinks
  • Restaurants and takeaways

The process

Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Elsted Marsh.

  1. We start by finding the trap and checking its inlet and outlet.
  2. We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
  3. We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
  4. The inside, baffles and pipe connections are cleaned.
  5. We put it back together, run water through and remove the waste.

Getting ready for the visit

Looking after it afterwards

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Use strainers in the sink plugholes
  • Avoid pouring boiling water down to shift grease
  • Wipe grease off pans before washing them
  • Let us know if the kitchen gets busier

Between cleans, keep food scraps out of the sink. Use strainers in the sink plugholes before they reach the trap.

More cooking means more grease in the trap. Shortening the cleaning interval now stops it overflowing.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Commercial kitchens in Elsted Marsh

Environmental health officers from Chichester council inspect food businesses in Elsted Marsh. Grease behind equipment or on a ceiling is the kind of thing an inspection can note. A cleaning log that includes deep cleans and grease trap visits shows the work is planned. Elsted Marsh, about 47 miles from central London, is within our usual area. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours.

If you run a kitchen in an older building near Elsted Marsh, such as a historic house like Cowdray House (about 3.5 miles east), older drains make a working grease trap all the more important. Hall kitchens near St George's Church or elsewhere in Elsted Marsh may have older sinks and drains, so a grease trap check is worth adding to a deep clean.

Common problems we fix in Elsted Marsh

A full trap cannot hold any more grease. It then builds up in the drains and on towards the sewer, where it can form blockages.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • A larger grease trap that needs emptying
  • An overdue grease trap
  • Drains clogged with fat
  • A kitchen drain that smells

Healthcare kitchens cook through the year, so a deep clean has to be fitted around meals; Midhurst Community Hospital, about 3.5 miles east, is the nearest hospital to Elsted Marsh.

Questions to ask before you book

Elsted Marsh questions

Do you cover smaller places like Elsted Marsh?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Elsted Marsh is covered. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Elsted Marsh?

Kitchens in Elsted Marsh are inspected by Chichester council’s environmental health officers. An officer may look behind equipment and at drains, so it pays to have the deep clean booked before those areas build up.

Which grease traps does the service cover?

Under-sink units, inline traps and interceptors are all covered. Let us know what’s fitted and we will plan the visit.

What accreditations do you have?

We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.

Why does a grease trap need regular cleaning?

An overfull trap lets grease into the drains. It sets there and narrows the pipes until they block. Keeping the trap clean stops that happening.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we have been trading since 2009.

Do I get a report after the visit?

Yes, on every job. The report is dated and includes photos, and TR19® Grease cleans come with a certificate through the BESCA VHE portal. File it with your fire safety records.

For landlords and multi-site operators

For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
