Grease trap cleaning in Crosswater: local notes

It’s Waverley council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Crosswater. Grease behind equipment or on a ceiling is the kind of thing an inspection can note. Keeping a record of deep cleans and grease trap visits helps at inspection time. We cover Crosswater, about 38 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. A survey and a fixed quote come first, then the visit at a time that suits you.

Half-term is a good time for school kitchens, at schools like St John's CofE Aided Infant School for instance, to have the grease trap emptied and the kitchen deep cleaned. If you run a care home or healthcare kitchen near Crosswater (the nearest hospital is Chase Community Hospital, about 4.7 miles south-west), a grease trap on a set schedule avoids a blocked drain mid-service.

How we handle grease trap cleaning in Crosswater

A neglected grease trap stops doing its job. Further down the pipe, the grease cools and hardens, leading to slow drains, blockages and smells. A trap that’s cleaned regularly keeps grease where it belongs. Typical jobs include drains clogged with fat and a routine grease trap service, across pot wash sinks, restaurants and takeaways and inline grease traps.

Somewhere as small as Crosswater, the kitchens that need a deep clean are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still needs the occasional deep clean and its grease trap kept clear.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

When to call us in Crosswater

Hot washing-up water keeps grease liquid for a while. Once it cools, it sets in the pipework or the drain.

Clients normally contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Washing-up water that won’t drain away
  • Drains that gurgle and bubble
  • A bad smell from the sinks or drains
  • A grease trap that hasn’t been emptied in a long time

If you run a kitchen in an older building near Crosswater, such as a historic house like Farnham Castle (about 4.9 miles north), older drains make a working grease trap all the more important.

Questions to ask before booking

Why it’s worth doing now in Crosswater

Smells from a neglected trap are hard to ignore. Decomposing waste in the trap smells bad and the smell carries. Cleaning it removes the cause. Somewhere as small as Crosswater, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

What you get with us

  • In business since 2009
  • Accredited under CHAS and SafeContractor, with ISO 9001
  • Fully insured
  • Fixed quotes, normally within one working day

What the work involves, part by part

Under-sink grease traps

Under-sink traps are compact units fitted below the kitchen sink. Their small size means they fill fast and need regular cleaning.

Inline grease traps

An inline trap sits in the pipework between the kitchen and the drain. They hold more than under-sink units but still need regular emptying.

How the visit works

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes anything from under an hour to a few hours, depending on the trap. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Crosswater knowing what to expect.

  1. We locate the trap and check how it’s fitted.
  2. Sinks feeding the trap are taken out of use.
  3. Grease and solids are removed from the trap.
  4. The chambers and baffles are cleaned.
  5. We refit it, run water through and remove the waste.

Before we arrive

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Crosswater questions

Is Crosswater within the area you cover?

Yes, Crosswater is part of our area, however small the site. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Do you work overnight in Crosswater?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. That way a site in Crosswater does not have to lose a day’s trading. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Which records should we keep?

Every certificate and report from each visit, kept together in your maintenance log with your in-house cleaning records. BESA advises that certificates record the date, location and technician.

What does TR19 mean?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

What do you do to protect the area?

By covering it before any work starts. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.

What accreditations do you have?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We are fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

Where does the grease from the trap go?

It’s removed from site when we leave. There’s nothing left for your team to deal with after we’ve finished.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

What affects the quote in Crosswater

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We take into account:

  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you’ll get one fixed quote.

Helping us quote

What to send for a quote:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

Need a price for grease trap cleaning? Please call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us with a few details about the site. We will explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before anything is booked.

What a clean won’t put right

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Grease set hard in the drain run
  • A leaking sink waste or trap connection
  • Drains that are cracked or have collapsed

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will tell you honestly before you book.
