Need grease trap cleaning in Ashurst?

Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Ashurst

Smells from the sink, gurgling drains or slow drainage all point to the grease trap. In Ashurst, as everywhere we work, our team empties and cleans the trap and run water through to check it drains. The work covers restaurants and takeaways, kitchen waste pipes and inline grease traps, and the jobs we see most are sinks that drain slowly and a bad smell from the sinks or drains.

Rural kitchens may drain to a septic tank or a private drain rather than straight into a public sewer, and fat getting past a grease trap can cause real trouble there.

The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Different parts, different methods

School, care home and staff kitchens

Kitchens that serve set mealtimes fill their traps more steadily. A regular interval suits them well.

Under-sink grease traps

An under-sink trap is out of sight. A full one shows itself with a slow, smelly sink.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:

  • Wipe grease off pans before washing them
  • Book trap cleans at a set interval
  • Never pour used oil down the sink
  • Keep strainers in every sink

Collect waste cooking oil separately rather than pouring it down the sink and the trap will not fill as quickly. It’s the single easiest way to help.

Grease that gets past the trap sets in the drains. Once it’s there, it needs a drainage contractor to clear, so it’s far better to keep the trap clean.

What affects the cost of grease trap cleaning

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • The times the site is available
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Where the site is and how we reach it

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before work begins.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • The site address and the type of premises

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

Ashurst kitchens: local notes

Ashurst, about 28 miles from central London, is within our usual area. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours. It’s Wealden council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Ashurst. Grease behind equipment or on a ceiling is the kind of thing an inspection can note. Keeping a record of deep cleans and grease trap visits helps at inspection time.

Tunbridge Wells Homeopathic Hospital, about 4.4 miles east, is the nearest hospital to Ashurst; healthcare kitchens cannot stop cooking, so deep cleans are worked around meal times. If you run a café or takeaway near Ashurst Kent station, a deep clean overnight means the kitchen opens as normal next morning. If you run a kitchen in an older building near Ashurst, such as a historic house like Groombridge Place (about 1.6 miles south-east), older drains make a working grease trap all the more important.

Ashurst is about 5 miles west of Royal Tunbridge Wells, in Kent. Sites in Ashurst get the same service as everywhere we cover: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where necessary and a written report with pictures. Our Kent coverage runs to 922 places, Ashurst among them. You can also see our page for Maidstone, roughly 19 miles from Ashurst.

Here we cover the TN3 postcode area for grease trap cleaning. We cover sites on Ashurst Road, Clayton's Lane and Ashurst Hill and the roads around them. If your site is just outside Ashurst, we cover Stone Cross (1 mile east), Teasley Mead (1 mile north-west), Fordcombe (1 mile north-east), Walter's Green (1 mile north) and Groombridge (2 miles south-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Sevenoaks (11 miles north), Royal Tunbridge Wells (5 miles east), Tonbridge (7 miles north-east), Kings Hill (15 miles north-east), Paddock Wood (11 miles east) and Southborough (5 miles north-east).

Near you in Ashurst

Ashurst has its own railway station: Ashurst Kent station. Nearby you’ll also find Tunbridge Wells Homeopathic Hospital (4.4 miles east) and Bolebroke Castle (2.4 miles west). For a walk, there’s Broadwater Warren RSPB Reserve.

What happens if it’s left?

For a kitchen in Ashurst, a regular grease trap clean is a small, planned job. A blocked drain is an emergency and normally at the worst moment. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Ashurst rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.

The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Why us?

  • Every visit written up, with pictures
  • Full insurance on every job
  • Every job surveyed first

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.

Ashurst: your questions answered

Which council inspects kitchens in Ashurst?

The local authority for Ashurst is Wealden council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. How often a business is inspected depends on the council’s risk rating for it, so the kitchen needs to be ready at any time.

Can you come to Ashurst after we close?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. That way a site in Ashurst does not have to lose a day’s trading. Let us know the hours you are closed and we will book within them.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

No. The law sets the duty, and TR19® is the recognised benchmark for meeting it. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must reduce fire risk, and without records, many insurers may refuse or reduce a claim.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

By covering it before any work starts. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.

How often should a grease trap be cleaned?

The right interval depends on your trap and your cooking. Slow or smelly sinks between cleans mean it needs doing more often, and we can shorten it.

How far ahead should we book?

For planned work, earlier is better, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

How the visit works

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. The middle part takes longest, and that takes a short visit for a small trap and longer for an inline unit or interceptor. Somewhere as small as Ashurst, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. First, we locate the grease trap and look at the pipework around it.
  2. Nothing drains into the trap while it’s open.
  3. The trap is emptied of grease and food waste.
  4. Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
  5. The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.

Preparing for the visit

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
