How we price grease filter exchange

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • The scale of the work

We don’t list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll talk you through it.

Helping us quote

To speed up the quote, send us:

  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before we start.

Grease filter exchange in White City, done properly

A filter that doesn’t sit right lets grease straight past. Bent, damaged or missing filters leave gaps and every filter is checked when we swap them. Damaged filters are flagged so they can be replaced. Common call-outs are for a canopy that drips grease and a canopy running with filters missing, on school and hospital kitchens, mesh filters and wall canopies.

Kitchens in White City, like many across London, can share a building with flats or offices, with the duct running up through shared risers. A duct fire there can reach parts of the building far from the range, which is why keeping it clean to TR19® matters.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

How the visit works

We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your pictures. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. From there, it takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. We fit London jobs around the building rather than the other way round, so a visit in White City is usually out of hours.

  1. We start by noting how many filters you have and what type they are.
  2. A change schedule is agreed to match the kitchen’s cooking hours.
  3. Each visit starts with the used filters being removed.
  4. Clean filters go straight back in, seated properly with no gaps.
  5. We flag any damaged filters or anything wrong with the canopy.

Before we arrive

Advice

Honest limits

Not every problem is solved by grease filter exchange, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:

  • Cooking smells reaching neighbours, which need odour control
  • An extract that was undersized from the start
  • A fan that is failing or too weak for the system

If you are not sure, just call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Wall canopies
  • Restaurants and pubs
  • Baffle filters
  • Mesh filters
  • Island canopies

What the work involves, part by part

The plenum

A greasy plenum is a sign filters have been left too long or that the next TR19 clean is due.

Baffle filters

A clogged baffle filter restricts airflow. Swapping them for a clean set restores it.

When to call us in White City

Repeated removal and washing takes its toll on filters. Damaged filters don’t sit flush and grease passes round them.

Any of these means the system needs a check-up:

  • Grease building up behind the canopy filters
  • Damaged filters letting grease past
  • Missing filters in the filter bank
  • Weak extraction at the canopy

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Michael and St George, or anywhere in White City, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report

Grease filter exchange around White City

Food Standards Agency data counts about 887 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 177 sandwich bars and takeaways in and around White City, up to about a mile and a half out. Each canopy among them has filters that load with grease and need swapping or cleaning. Environmental health officers from Hammersmith and Fulham council inspect food businesses in White City. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. London jobs usually start after the last service, with loading and roof access agreed with the building first.

Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to White City is Princess Louise Hospital, about 0.5 miles north. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Ark Swift Primary Academy, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Mention it if the kitchen gets busier
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is in use
  • Wipe the outside of the canopy as part of daily cleaning
  • Look out for drips from the canopy

Your team carries on as normal, without the filter washing. Just keep the canopy clear for the next visit and let us know of any changes to opening hours.

Filter exchange and TR19 cleaning work best together. A maintenance plan that covers both keeps everything on track.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

White City: your questions answered

Do you work at weekends in White City?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Which council inspects kitchens in White City?

That’s Hammersmith and Fulham council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in White City. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

What should go in our maintenance log?

Anything that proves the system is maintained: our reports and pictures, any certificates and your in-house logs. One maintenance log per site keeps it simple.

What is TR19?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping, and it takes a risk-based approach.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.

Do we need to close while you work?

Not typically. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Bigger sites can be done in stages to keep things running.

Who is the responsible person?

The law calls them the responsible person. That is generally the employer or the person in control of the premises, and where several people have control, each can have duties. Your lease and fire risk assessment should make it clear.
