Grease filter exchange in Vernham Dean

Grease filter exchange in Vernham Dean

An exchange visit in Vernham Dean does not take long. The greasy filters come out, clean ones go in and make sure there are no gaps between them. Anything that needs attention is pointed out. If you are dealing with filters left unwashed on busy weeks and poor airflow through the filters, we can put it right.

Work in a small place like Vernham Dean starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Each visit ends with a written report and photos, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

How we price grease filter exchange

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We take into account:

  • The times the site is available
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • What state the system is in
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.

Helping us quote

We can often survey from pictures. Try to include:

  • A few general shots of the system
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is

For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll usually have a quote within one working day.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Different parts, different methods

Baffle filters

A clogged baffle filter restricts airflow. Swapping them for a clean set restores it.

Canopy filter housings

The trough or channel under the filters fills with grease. If it needs attention, we will tell you.

Honest limits

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • An extract that was undersized from the start
  • Grease already built up in the ductwork, which needs a full TR19 clean
  • A heavily greased plenum or canopy, which needs cleaning to TR19

If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What the work covers

  • Mesh filters
  • Baffle filters
  • Wall canopies
  • Island canopies
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Restaurants and pubs

The process

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. Somewhere as small as Vernham Dean, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. We start by noting how many filters you have and what type they are.
  2. Together we set how often the filters should be changed.
  3. Each visit starts with the used filters being removed.
  4. Clean, dry filters are fitted in their place, with no gaps left between them.
  5. We flag any damaged filters or anything wrong with the canopy.

How to prepare

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Clear the space around the work
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Ask for a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Aftercare tips

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Clean the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Always run the extract while cooking
  • Do not refit a filter that’s bent
  • Tell us if the menu or opening hours change

Fresh filters improve airflow at the canopy straight away. Always run the extract during cooking so they catch grease as intended.

A kitchen that is getting busier needs its filters changed more often. Adjusting the schedule now prevents a build-up behind the canopy.

Questions from Vernham Dean

Which fire service covers Vernham Dean?

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Vernham Dean. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Which council inspects kitchens in Vernham Dean?

In Vernham Dean, it’s Test Valley council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.

Which sectors do you work in?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, as well as food production and leisure sites.

Can you give a price for filter changes?

We price it on the number of filters and the visit frequency. Tell us what you have and we’ll come back with a fixed quote, usually within one working day.

Do you handle baffle and mesh filters?

We exchange baffle and mesh filters. At the start, we note what your canopies use so the clean set always fits.

Where does the waste go?

We take it away when we go. During the work, it’s contained so the area stays clean.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Are you accredited?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We have been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.

Multi-site and managed buildings

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.

Grease, kitchens and Vernham Dean

In Vernham Dean, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Test Valley council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Vernham Dean is covered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Vernham Dean Gillum's Church of England Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Vernham Dean, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.
