Grease filter exchange for sites in The Green

Grease filter exchange in The Green, done properly

Filter exchange sits between full TR19® cleans. Clean filters reduce the grease reaching the ducts, but some grease still passes through as vapour. That’s why the whole system still needs cleaning to TR19 at the right interval. We are often asked to deal with grease building up behind the canopy filters and bent or damaged filters that don’t sit properly, on wall canopies, baffle filters and island canopies.

In a village or hamlet like The Green, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

Good records are part of the job. You get a written report with photos after every visit, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

What affects the cost of grease filter exchange

You will get a fixed price before any work starts. It’s based on:

  • How big the system is
  • The times the site is available
  • The number of sites or systems
  • Travel, parking and unloading

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

What to send for a quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To start, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

What we’re called out for in The Green

Sometimes a filter is taken out and never put back. A missing filter leaves an open route into the system and on into the ductwork.

Any of these means the system needs a check-up:

  • Filters so greasy the air can barely pass
  • A canopy running with filters missing
  • Grease collecting in the filter channels
  • Filters left unwashed on busy weeks

Where a hall near St Barnabas, or anywhere in The Green, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • Whether a written report and photos are included
  • Whether they recommend a next date

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

Part by part

Canopy filter housings

The filter housing holds each filter at an angle in the canopy. If it’s bent or greasy, filters will not seat properly.

The plenum

Heavy grease in the plenum often follows clogged or missing filters or that the next TR19 clean is due.

How the visit works

Your staff do not need to do much on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to The Green.

  1. We start by noting how many filters you have and what type they are.
  2. A change schedule is agreed to match the kitchen’s cooking hours.
  3. Each visit starts with the used filters being removed.
  4. Clean, dry filters are fitted in their place, with no gaps left between them.
  5. Anything we notice, such as bent filters or a dirty plenum, is pointed out.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the space around the work
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

Getting a quote

To get a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. You will typically have a quote within one working day.

Advice

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Grease filter exchange in The Green: the local picture

The Green, about 37 miles from central London, is within our usual area. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours. The Green sits within the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

If you cook for passing trade around Cressing station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer. Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to The Green is William Julien Courtauld Hospital, about 2.4 miles north-west.

The Green is about 3 miles south of Braintree, in Essex. We carry out grease filter exchange for commercial premises of every kind in The Green and the rest of Essex. Across Essex, we cover 644 places, The Green among them. There’s also a page for Chelmsford, about 8 miles away.

What a clean will not put right

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what grease filter exchange won’t do:

  • A canopy too small for the cooking beneath it
  • A noisy or failed extract fan
  • Grease behind the filters that a swap can’t remove

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Island canopies
  • Wall canopies
  • Restaurants and pubs
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Baffle filters
  • Mesh filters

Keeping the system healthy

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Keep every filter in place during service
  • Keep canopy surfaces wiped down
  • Always run the extract while cooking
  • Look out for drips from the canopy

The canopy looks cleaner and the air moves better from the moment they’re fitted. Always run the extract during cooking so they catch grease as intended.

If filters are already dripping, they’re overdue. Changing them now reduces the fuel above the cooking, and it’s worth checking the plenum too.

Questions from The Green

Do you work overnight in The Green?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The work in The Green can fit around your hours. When you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, mention when the site is quiet.

Do you cover smaller places like The Green?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, The Green included. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

How far ahead should we book?

Earlier is better, particularly for night and weekend visits. Quotes normally come back within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

Do I get a report after the visit?

Yes. You get a written report with pictures after every visit, showing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, there’s also a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

How long will you be on site?

We will confirm the time with your quote. For a typical site, it takes a few minutes per canopy, longer for a large kitchen with several canopies.

What should go in our maintenance log?

Anything that proves the system is maintained: reports, certificates, photos and your own cleaning or check logs. One maintenance log per site keeps it simple.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

Anything we can’t reach goes on the report, with pictures where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

Do you take the used filters away?

We take them away to be cleaned and your staff don’t have to deal with them. Clean filters go straight in.
