What a clean won’t put right

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • A canopy too small for the cooking beneath it
  • Cooking smells reaching neighbours, which need odour control
  • A fan that is failing or too weak for the system

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Grease filter exchange in South Stour

Each visit is quick and tidy. We lift out the dirty filters and fit a clean set and make sure there are no gaps between them. If something looks wrong, we tell you. The work covers wall canopies, school and hospital kitchens and mesh filters, and the jobs we see most are blocked baffle filters and poor airflow through the filters.

Work in a small place like South Stour starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What we do, step by step

Your trading hours come first. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that is an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we’re in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes a few minutes per canopy, longer for a large kitchen with several canopies. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in South Stour before we set off.

  1. First, we check the canopies and the filters in them.
  2. Any damaged or missing filters are noted.
  3. Greasy filters are swapped for clean ones.
  4. The filters are checked for fit before we go.
  5. Anything that needs attention, such as a greasy plenum, is pointed out.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

Advice

Grease filter exchange in South Stour: the local picture

It’s Ashford council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in South Stour. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. South Stour is about 51 miles from central London, well within the area we cover across London and the South East. A survey and a fixed quote come first, then the visit at a time that suits you.

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around South Stour (Godinton House is about 4.8 miles north-west), fitting access panels needs care. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Finberry Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as William Harvey Hospital (about 2.4 miles north), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

South Stour is about 3 miles south-east of Ashford, in Kent. Across the TN25 area, we cover grease filter exchange for commercial sites. South Stour is one of 922 towns, villages and districts in Kent where we work for grease filter exchange. You can also see our page for Maidstone, roughly 20 miles from South Stour.

Between visits

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Tell us if a filter is bent or damaged
  • Keep every filter in place during service
  • Make sure we can reach the canopy on exchange day
  • Wipe the outside of the canopy as part of daily cleaning

Between visits, check that every filter is still in place. Gaps let grease into the plenum, so let us know if one goes missing or gets damaged.

A kitchen that is getting busier needs its filters changed more often. Adjusting the schedule now prevents a build-up in the ducts.

Your questions about grease filter exchange in South Stour

Which fire authority looks after South Stour?

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for South Stour. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Which environmental health team covers South Stour?

The local authority for South Stour is Ashford council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Is filter exchange enough instead of a full extract clean?

It isn’t. The rest of the system still collects grease at the right interval.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.

Can damaged filters stay in the canopy?

We check every filter at each visit. We tell you about any that are damaged since a poor fit lets grease past.

Will you tell us when the next visit is due?

Yes. How often depends on use and condition, and we explain the reasoning on the report.

What if parts of the system can’t be reached?

We never leave them off the paperwork. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

What should go in our maintenance log?

Visit reports, certificates and your in-house cleaning logs. They’re what an insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask for, so keep them where they can be found quickly.

What the work involves, part by part

School, care home and staff kitchens

For kitchens closed in the holidays, visits can be timed around term or rota so the filters are clean when cooking picks up.

Canopy filter housings

Every exchange includes a check of how the filters sit, because gaps let grease through.

What staff can safely do

Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

What affects the quote in South Stour

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We take into account:

  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • The number of sites or systems
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you are unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

What to send for a quote:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

What happens if it’s left?

Dripping canopies and greasy smells often start with the filters. Drips land on surfaces and equipment below and that’s the kind of thing inspectors look for. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.
