Grease filter exchange across Rake and nearby, timed so the site keeps working and finished with a written report and photos.
- Filters that leave gaps in the canopy
- A greasy plenum behind the filters
- Smoke and heat lingering under the hood
Managing agents and facilities teams in Rake
Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit ends with a dated report and pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
Grease filter exchange in Rake, done properly
Grease filters are the first line of defence in a kitchen extract. Their job is to stop grease getting further into the system and they do it best when they’re clean. Our grease filter exchange service swaps dirty filters for clean ones on a schedule. We’re often asked to deal with gaps where filters have been removed and grease filters clogged with grease, across wall canopies, restaurants and pubs and school and hospital kitchens.
In a small place like Rake, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

What the work involves, part by part
Busy restaurant and pub kitchens
Heavy cooking means more grease reaching every part of the system. Changing them on time protects the ducts behind.
Mesh filters
Mesh filters use layers of metal mesh to trap grease. In a busy kitchen, mesh soon blocks, so they need changing often.
Rake: your questions answered
Do you work in villages like Rake?
Yes, Rake is part of our area, however small the site. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
Which fire service covers Rake?
That is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
Does a filter exchange disrupt service?
A filter change is quick and can be timed around service. The canopy shouldn’t be used without filters so the swap is done promptly.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.
Which sectors do you work in?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.
Do you take the used filters away?
We take them away. That’s how an exchange works: you always have a clean set fitted and nothing greasy left on site.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
Does a filter exchange replace TR19 cleaning?
No. Some grease passes the filters as vapour and settles in the ducts and the whole system still needs its TR19 clean.
The process
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Rake, let us know and we’ll plan around it.
- First, we record the size, type and number of filters in each canopy.
- A change schedule is agreed to match the kitchen’s cooking hours.
- At every visit, the greasy filters are lifted out.
- We fit clean filters and check they sit snugly in the housing.
- Anything we notice, such as bent filters or a dirty plenum, is pointed out.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Tell us where we can park and unload
Getting a quote
To get a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You will normally have a quote within one working day.

What grease filter exchange looks like in Rake
About 45 miles out from central London, Rake is part of the South East area we work across. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours. The fire and rescue service for Rake is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Rake Mission Church or elsewhere in Rake, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Rake CofE Primary School or anywhere near Rake, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Do you need grease filter exchange in Rake?
Wherever you are, Rake included, filter washing is the job that gets skipped when the kitchen is busy. A missed wash or two is all it takes for filters to fill with grease.
These are the problems we see most often:
- A greasy plenum behind the filters
- A canopy running with filters missing
- Filter washing that keeps being missed
- Drips falling from the filters onto equipment
Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Rake is Chase Community Hospital, about 4.2 miles north.
What to look for in a quote
- What records you’ll receive afterwards
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- Proof of insurance
- Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
What a clean will not put right
To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:
- Grease behind the filters that a swap cannot remove
- Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change won’t reach
- A fan that is failing or too weak for the system
Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What affects the cost of grease filter exchange
There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. The quote depends on:
- The condition we find in the survey
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- Whether several sites go on one quote
Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before work begins.
Helping us quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- Any previous report or certificate
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before any work starts.
What happens if it’s left?
In Rake, as everywhere, a filter service isn’t a substitute for TR19 cleaning. But clean filters do help the system between cleans, and that shows when the next clean comes round. In a small place like Rake, a system that fails can take a site out of use.
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before work begins.
