Grease filter exchange in Petteridge

How we handle grease filter exchange in Petteridge

Filter exchange sits between full TR19® cleans. Clean filters reduce the grease reaching the ducts though vapour still carries some grease past them. So the canopy, plenum and ducts still need their full TR19 clean. The work covers school and hospital kitchens, wall canopies and restaurants and pubs, and common reasons people get in touch are a canopy that drips grease and filter washing that keeps being missed.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

Honest limits

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change will not reach
  • Odours from the discharge that filters won’t stop
  • A fan that’s failing or too weak for the system

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Restaurants and pubs
  • Baffle filters
  • Wall canopies
  • Island canopies
  • Mesh filters
  • School and hospital kitchens

What we do, step by step

There are three stages on the day: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes a short visit, depending on how many filters the canopies hold. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Petteridge knowing what to expect.

  1. First, we record the size, type and number of filters in each canopy.
  2. We agree a schedule that suits how much the kitchen cooks.
  3. At each visit, the greasy filters are lifted out.
  4. Clean filters go straight back in, seated properly with no gaps.
  5. If a filter is damaged or the plenum needs attention, we tell you.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Clear loose items from the work area

How to get a quote

We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Petteridge questions

Which fire authority looks after Petteridge?

That is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Can school kitchens in Petteridge be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Food Standards Agency records list about 2 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Petteridge. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

What types of filter do you exchange?

The common types of grease filter: baffle and mesh. Mention how many canopies you have when you get in touch and we will confirm it on site.

What do you do with what you remove?

We contain it and take it with us. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it doesn’t spread.

Do you clean filters as well as exchanging them?

Yes, filters can be cleaned on a schedule as well as exchanged. We will explain the options when we quote.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need and the fixed quote is built on it.

What is TR19?

A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

How far ahead should we book?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.

Aftercare tips

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Keep filter exchange and TR19 cleaning on the same plan
  • Make sure we can reach the canopy on exchange day
  • Don’t refit a filter that’s bent
  • Make sure no filter is left out

If the plenum behind the filters looks greasy, we say so. It can be a sign that a full TR19® clean is due, and we can arrange it.

Clean filters plus regular full cleans keep the system in good health. A maintenance plan that covers both means neither slips.

Grease, kitchens and Petteridge

Food Standards Agency records list about 3 restaurants, cafés and canteens in Petteridge and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Any of those kitchens with a canopy relies on its filters to catch grease before it reaches the duct. Petteridge is covered by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. Environmental health officers from Tunbridge Wells council inspect food businesses in Petteridge. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

Church and community hall kitchens, near Ebenezer Church (Matfield) or anywhere around Petteridge, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Tunbridge Wells Hospital about 3.2 miles west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. For schools such as Brenchley and Matfield Church of England Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

What happens if it’s left?

When filters block, extraction suffers. The kitchen gets hotter and smokier while the fan strains. Keeping filters clean keeps the extract working properly. If the system at a site near Petteridge fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.

What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.

From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.

What staff can safely do

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

What affects the cost of grease filter exchange

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The condition of the system
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • How big the system is

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

What to send for a quote

Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Useful things to send:

  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, photos of the system and any previous report or certificate. Once you have those, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
