About our grease filter exchange in Little Amwell
We run grease filter exchange for all kinds of kitchens in Little Amwell, whether there’s one canopy or many. We can come before or after service, so cooking is not interrupted. The work covers wall canopies, mesh filters and island canopies, and the jobs we see most are filters that leave gaps in the canopy and filter washing that keeps being missed.
In a small place like Little Amwell, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
A written report with pictures follows each visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Honest limits
We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:
- Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change won’t reach
- Smell complaints that need odour control equipment
- A fan that’s failing or too weak for the system
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think before booking.

Little Amwell questions
Which council inspects kitchens in Little Amwell?
That’s East Hertfordshire council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Little Amwell. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Which fire service covers Little Amwell?
It’s Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Little Amwell. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We carry full insurance, and we’ve been trading since 2009.
Do you clean filters as well as exchanging them?
We offer filter cleaning as well as exchange. We will explain the options when you get in touch.
What about areas you cannot get to?
They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, which we can install.
What happens to the dirty filters?
We take them away. That is the point of an exchange: you always have a clean set fitted, with no washing for your team.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, any time. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we’ll talk you through the next steps.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Every site has its own report.
Little Amwell kitchens: local notes
The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 10 pubs and bars across Little Amwell and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Fire safety in Little Amwell falls to Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Kitchens in Little Amwell get their food hygiene inspections from East Hertfordshire council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Hertford County Hospital (about 2.5 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. For schools such as Hertford Heath Primary and Nursery School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of the Holy Trinity or elsewhere in Little Amwell, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Leave it or put it right?
Once filters are saturated, more grease gets past them. That makes the next full clean a bigger job and grease readings can rise between cleans. In a place like Little Amwell, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.
The cost depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

Part by part
Busy restaurant and pub kitchens
Kitchens that fry and grill all day load their filters fast. Their exchange schedule is typically the tightest.
Canopy filter housings
We check that filters sit snugly in the housing at each visit since a gap is a route for grease.

What staff can safely do
Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.
What we do, step by step
A visit follows the same order every time: protect the area, make the system safe, do the work, clear away and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes a short visit, depending on how many filters the canopies hold. For a village or hamlet like Little Amwell, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.
- The filters in each canopy are measured and counted.
- We set the interval with you.
- On each visit, we remove the greasy filters.
- Clean filters go in and we check they sit snugly.
- The dirty filters leave with us and the next visit is booked.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
Getting a quote
We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
Advice
Keeping the system healthy
How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Wipe the outside of the canopy as part of daily cleaning
- Never cook with the extract switched off
- Don’t refit a filter that is bent
- Keep every filter in place during service
Keep an eye out for filters that have been taken out. Gaps let grease into the plenum, so let us know if one goes missing or gets damaged.
Filters that are left too long stop protecting the system. Getting onto a regular exchange now keeps grease out of the plenum and ductwork between full cleans.
