Grease filter exchange in Letty Green

In Letty Green, our filter exchange runs on a schedule set by how much the kitchen cooks. The heavier the cooking, the more often filters need changing while a lighter kitchen can go longer. The interval is agreed before the first visit. If you have grease left in baffles after washing and blocked baffle filters, we can help, from island canopies, school and hospital kitchens and mesh filters onwards.

In a small place like Letty Green, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Letty Green kitchens: local notes

At about 20 miles from central London, Letty Green sits well inside the area we cover. Evening, overnight and weekend visits are all possible. Letty Green sits within the area of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (about 2.2 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Hatfield House is about 3.4 miles south-west), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. School kitchens, at schools like Hertingfordbury Cowper Primary School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Letty Green is about 3 miles south-east of Welwyn Garden City, in Hertfordshire. Whether your site is in the middle of Letty Green or further out, grease filter exchange is available to all kinds of commercial premises, from small sites to large estates. Letty Green is one of 381 places in Hertfordshire we cover for commercial clients. London is in our area too, about 20 miles from Letty Green.

Our technicians cover all of SG14 for grease filter exchange and the roads nearby. Why it’s worth doing now in Letty Green

Filters full of grease are fuel sitting right above the cooking. Flames from the range can be drawn up into the canopy, and from there into the duct. Clean filters mean less fuel in the canopy. With notice, the visit to Letty Green can be fitted around your bookings and events.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before we start.

Different parts, different methods

School, care home and staff kitchens

Kitchens that cook for set mealtimes still load their filters, though often more slowly.

Canopy filter housings

The filter housing holds each filter at an angle in the canopy. A damaged housing leaves gaps.

What we do, step by step

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes a short visit, depending on how many filters the canopies hold. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Letty Green before we set off.

  1. We record the number, size and type of your filters.
  2. We set the interval with you.
  3. The dirty set is lifted out.
  4. Clean filters go in and we check they sit snugly.
  5. We take the greasy set away and confirm the next date.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

Ask for a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Advice

Your questions about grease filter exchange in Letty Green

Who inspects food businesses in Letty Green?

Food hygiene inspections in Letty Green are carried out by East Hertfordshire council. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Can the work in Letty Green be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The work in Letty Green can fit around your hours. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we’ll book within them.

Do I get a report after the visit?

Yes, on every job. The report is dated and includes pictures, plus a certificate via the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal for TR19® Grease cleans. Keep it in your maintenance log.

What does grease filter exchange cost?

Every kitchen is different, so we need to know the filters and interval first. We send you a fixed quote before the service starts.

What accreditations do you have?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We have been trading since 2009 and we’re fully insured.

What types of filter do you exchange?

We work with both baffle and mesh filters. The first step is recording what you have and set up the service around them.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.

What is TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

Honest limits

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Grease deep in the extract system
  • Smell complaints that need odour control equipment
  • A canopy that needs a proper clean

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Wall canopies
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Baffle filters
  • Mesh filters
  • Island canopies
  • Restaurants and pubs

Keeping the system healthy

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Clear anything stored on or near the canopy
  • Always run the extract while cooking
  • Don’t refit a filter that is bent
  • Wipe the outside of the canopy as part of daily cleaning

Your next visit is scheduled before we leave. If cooking increases, we can change filters more often to keep up.

Dripping filters are a clear sign they’re full. Changing them now reduces the fuel above the cooking and the plenum may need a clean as well.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.
