In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Grease filter exchange in Hillyfields

Baffle filters and mesh filters both fill with grease. Once they’re clogged, airflow drops and the fan has to work harder. A steady cycle of clean filters keeps extraction strong. The work covers baffle filters, restaurants and pubs and island canopies, and the jobs we see most are bent or damaged filters that don’t sit properly and a canopy that drips grease.

Kitchens around a place like Hillyfields are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

What a clean will not put right

In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • An extract that was undersized from the start
  • Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change won’t reach
  • Smell complaints that need odour control equipment

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What the work covers

  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Wall canopies

Hillyfields: your questions answered

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Hillyfields?

That’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Do you work in villages like Hillyfields?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Do you handle baffle and mesh filters?

We work with both baffle and mesh filters. The first step is recording what you have and plan the exchange around them.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We carry full insurance and have been trading since 2009.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.

Is filter exchange enough instead of a full extract clean?

No. Some grease passes the filters as vapour and settles in the ducts, so the full system still needs cleaning to TR19.

Do you clean filters as well as exchanging them?

We can. Cleaning your existing filters is an option while others want an exchange. Either way, the canopy isn’t left without filters during service.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Leave it or put it right?

Grease-loaded filters are a fire risk in their own right. Flames from the range can be drawn up into the canopy and grease in the duct can carry a fire further. Clean filters mean less fuel in the canopy. You choose the date of a planned visit, and a breakdown never asks.

A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before any work starts.

Why us?

How the job changes from site to site

School, care home and staff kitchens

For kitchens closed in the holidays, visits can be timed around term or rota so the filters are clean when cooking picks up.

Baffle filters

In a baffle filter, the air zigzags through metal baffles. Grease drops out as it does.

The process

We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes a few minutes per canopy, longer for a large kitchen with several canopies. Around Hillyfields, access is usually simpler than in a town centre, though gates and roof access are worth mentioning.

  1. We start by noting how many filters you have and what type they are.
  2. A change schedule is agreed to match the kitchen’s cooking hours.
  3. On each visit, the dirty filters come out of the canopy.
  4. We fit clean filters and check they sit snugly in the housing.
  5. We flag any damaged filters or anything wrong with the canopy.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

Looking after it afterwards

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Make sure no filter is left out
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is in use
  • Make sure we can reach the canopy on exchange day
  • Book full TR19 cleans alongside filter changes

Keep an eye out for filters that have been taken out. Gaps let grease into the plenum so tell us if you need a replacement.

Bent or missing filters let grease straight past. Replacing them early protects the plenum and ductwork.

How we price grease filter exchange

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • The times the site is available
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • What state the system is in
  • How many systems or sites are involved

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before work begins.

What to send for a quote

What to send for a quote:

  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow

If you need grease filter exchange in Hillyfields, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email. Tell us what kind of premises it is and when it’s open, plus photos or the previous report if they’re to hand. A fixed quote normally follows within one working day.

Grease, kitchens and Hillyfields

Sea air reaches Hillyfields, which sits within about 2 miles of the coast. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. The Food Standards Agency lists about 18 bars, pubs and nightclubs as registered food businesses in Hillyfields and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Environmental health officers from Test Valley council inspect food businesses in Hillyfields. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near All Saints or elsewhere in Hillyfields, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Hillyfields (Southampton Tudor House and Garden is about 3.7 miles south-east), fitting access panels needs care. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Western Community Hospital is the nearest hospital to Hillyfields, about 1.2 miles south-east.

Hillyfields is about 2 miles north-west of Regents Park, in Southampton. We provide grease filter exchange for businesses, landlords and public buildings in Hillyfields and the rest of Southampton. Our Southampton coverage runs to 40 places, Hillyfields among them.

Work in SO16 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Whether your site is on Maplin Road, Colne Avenue and Hayburn Road or a nearby road, we can help. With the M271 close by, Hillyfields is simple for us to get to for grease filter exchange. Close by, we work in Nursling (1 mile north), Maybush (1 mile south-east), Upton (1 mile north), Rownhams (1 mile north-east) and Coxford (1 mile east). Further out, we also cover Southampton (3 miles east), Townhill Park (5 miles east), Midanbury (5 miles east), Thornhill (6 miles east), Chartwell Green (5 miles east) and Harefield (6 miles east).
