About our grease filter exchange in Freezywater

A filter service works alongside TR19® cleaning, not instead of it. Clean filters reduce the grease reaching the ducts, but some grease still passes through as vapour. So the canopy, plenum and ducts still need their full TR19 clean. The work covers school and hospital kitchens, mesh filters and wall canopies, and the jobs we see most are filters that come out of the sink still dirty and grease filters clogged with grease.

Size doesn’t change the work: a kitchen in a place like Freezywater gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What happens on the day

We are used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes well under an hour for most canopies. Your opening hours decide when we come to Freezywater, not ours.

  1. We count and measure the filters in every canopy.
  2. We agree a schedule that suits how much the kitchen cooks.
  3. Each visit starts with the used filters being removed.
  4. We fit clean filters and check they sit snugly in the housing.
  5. We flag any damaged filters or anything wrong with the canopy.

Preparing for the visit

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

How to get a quote

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

Part by part

Baffle filters

Baffle filters are a common choice for commercial canopies. They don’t clean themselves as the collected grease builds up between the blades.

School, care home and staff kitchens

Kitchens that cook for set mealtimes still load their filters, though often more slowly.

Why deal with it now?

Filters full of grease are fuel sitting right above the cooking. Flames from the range can be drawn up into the canopy, and from there into the duct. Clean filters mean less fuel in the canopy. You choose the date of a planned visit, and a breakdown never asks.

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re not sure what’s needed, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

How we price grease filter exchange

Sites vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • What state the system is in
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • The size of the system

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

Helping us quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet

For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We usually come back within one working day.

When it’s something else

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Grease behind the filters that a swap cannot remove
  • Extraction problems caused by the fan rather than the filters
  • Grease already built up in the ductwork, which needs a full TR19 clean

If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Where we work

  • School and hospital kitchens

  • Island canopies

Common questions in Freezywater

Do you work overnight in Freezywater?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Freezywater needn’t be disturbed. When you call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, mention when the site is quiet.

Can a school canteen extract in Freezywater be done out of term time?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. There are about 30 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Freezywater. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

What does TR19 mean?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

How far ahead should we book?

The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. We normally quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

What about areas you can’t get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

What types of premises do you cover?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

No, not in itself. TR19® is the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs check against, and many insurers ask for proof of cleaning to it. The law behind it is the Fire Safety Order 2005, which applies in England and Wales.

Can we skip TR19 cleans if the filters are changed regularly?

No. Filter exchange works between full cleans, not instead of them. TR19® cleaning covers the canopy, plenum, ductwork and fan and comes with a certificate and photo report.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.

Grease filter exchange in Freezywater: the local picture

Food Standards Agency records include about 21 pubs and bars within about 1.5 miles of central Freezywater. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. The fire and rescue service for Freezywater is Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Environmental health officers from Broxbourne council inspect food businesses in Freezywater. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

For kitchens close to Enfield Lock station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. School kitchens, at schools like Keys Meadow Primary School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Ss Peter and Paul Church or elsewhere in Freezywater, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Between visits

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Make sure we can reach the canopy on exchange day
  • Report damaged filters so they can be replaced
  • Watch for grease drips between visits
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is in use

Fresh filters improve airflow at the canopy straight away. Always run the extract during cooking so they catch grease as intended.

Clean filters plus regular full cleans keep the system in good health. Setting both up on a schedule means neither slips.
