Grease filter exchange for sites in Crockham Heath

Grease filter exchange for kitchens and businesses in Crockham Heath

Think of filter exchange as routine care for the extract. Between full cleans, it keeps the airflow healthy and takes a messy task off your team. The full TR19 clean then gives the system its clean bill of health. If you’re dealing with blocked baffle filters and filters left unwashed on busy weeks, we can help.

Somewhere as small as Crockham Heath, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with photos, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. File it in your maintenance log so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

How the job changes from site to site

School, care home and staff kitchens

Lighter kitchens can often go longer between changes. The interval is set to fit.

Baffle filters

In a baffle filter, the air zigzags through metal baffles. Grease is thrown out of the airstream and collects on the baffles.

What happens if it’s left?

Leaving filters too long pushes more grease into the plenum and ducts. The ductwork then loads up faster, and grease may build up faster than the cleaning interval allows. A planned visit to Crockham Heath is easier to arrange than an emergency callout.

The cost depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

Common questions in Crockham Heath

Will you come out to Crockham Heath?

Yes, Crockham Heath is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Crockham Heath?

That’s Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

What do you do with what you remove?

It leaves the site with us when we go. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.

What types of premises do you cover?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, as well as food production and leisure sites.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

How long does the visit take?

It depends on the size of the system, but for many sites it takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. We will confirm it with the quote.

Can you give a price for filter changes?

The cost depends on your filters and the schedule. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form for a fixed quote once we know your canopies.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

What staff can safely do

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

What affects the quote in Crockham Heath

There’s no set price list, because no two systems are the same. The quote depends on:

  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • The size of the system

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

What to send for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Common problems we fix in Crockham Heath

Hand-washed filters often come back still greasy. Grease lodges deep in baffles and mesh, and a quick rinse leaves it there.

Clients usually contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Filters so greasy the air can barely pass
  • Weak extraction at the canopy
  • Missing filters in the filter bank
  • A greasy plenum behind the filters

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Enborne C.E. Primary School or anywhere near Crockham Heath, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

What your quote should include

  • Whether a written report and photos are included
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • What insurance they carry
  • How they set the interval to the next visit

Grease, kitchens and Crockham Heath

The FSA’s data shows about 3 pubs and bars registered within about 1.5 miles of central Crockham Heath. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Crockham Heath. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. In Crockham Heath, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Basingstoke and Deane council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

A hospital like West Berkshire Community Hospital, about 4 miles north-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Parish Church of St Michael or elsewhere in Crockham Heath, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

The process

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and it goes on the report too. All told, the work takes a few minutes per canopy, longer for a large kitchen with several canopies. In a small place like Crockham Heath, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.

  1. The filters in each canopy are measured and counted.
  2. An exchange schedule is agreed to suit your cooking.
  3. The dirty set is lifted out.
  4. Clean filters go in and we check they sit snugly.
  5. The dirty filters leave with us and the next visit is booked.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
