Grease filter exchange in Borough Green

Grease filter exchange for kitchens and businesses in Borough Green

Across Borough Green, our filter exchange suits restaurants, pubs, cafés, schools, care homes and other kitchens, whether there’s one canopy or many. We can come before or after service, so cooking is not interrupted. We’re often asked to deal with filters left unwashed on busy weeks and a canopy that drips grease, on restaurants and pubs, island canopies and school and hospital kitchens.

In a smaller place like Borough Green, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a dated report with photos of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Your questions about grease filter exchange in Borough Green

Which fire authority looks after Borough Green?

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Borough Green. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Can the work in Borough Green be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. That way a site in Borough Green does not have to lose a day’s trading. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Do you clean filters as well as exchanging them?

Yes, that’s an option. The first step is looking at the filters you have because bent or damaged ones may need replacing.

How far ahead should we book?

For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

Can we skip TR19 cleans if the filters are changed regularly?

No. Clean filters help keep grease down, but the ducts and plenum still need cleaning at the right interval.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes, of course. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.

What should go in our maintenance log?

Visit reports, certificates and your in-house cleaning logs. They’re what an insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask for, so keep them together and easy to find.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that cannot wait. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.

Between visits

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:

  • Book full TR19 cleans alongside filter changes
  • Watch for grease drips between visits
  • Wipe the outside of the canopy as part of daily cleaning
  • Make sure no filter is left out

Once the clean filters are in, the kitchen can cook right away. The dirty set leaves with us to be cleaned.

A kitchen that is getting busier needs its filters changed more often. Adjusting the schedule now prevents a build-up in the ducts.

Different parts, different methods

The plenum

Heavy grease in the plenum often follows clogged or missing filters, or that a full clean is due.

School, care home and staff kitchens

Even kitchens with fixed meal times build up grease though typically at a gentler pace.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

Kitchen extracts in Borough Green

Look up Borough Green on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 10 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 7 takeaways and sandwich shops within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Borough Green. Any of those kitchens with a canopy relies on its filters to catch grease before it reaches the duct. Environmental health officers from Tonbridge and Malling council inspect food businesses in Borough Green. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. The fire and rescue service for Borough Green is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near The Church of the Good Shepherd or elsewhere in Borough Green, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Commuter trade near Borough Green & Wrotham station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands. What we do, step by step

We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the work takes a short visit, depending on how many filters the canopies hold. Because the survey comes first, a visit to Borough Green can typically be finished without a second trip.

  1. We look at the canopies and the condition of the filters.
  2. We note any filters that are bent, damaged or missing.
  3. Greasy filters are swapped for clean ones.
  4. We check the filters are seated and the canopy is ready to use.
  5. Anything that needs attention, such as a greasy plenum, is pointed out.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Clear the space around the work

How to get a quote

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

When it’s something else

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so here are the limits:

  • Grease already built up in the ductwork, which needs a full TR19 clean
  • Cooking smells reaching neighbours, which need odour control
  • A heavily greased plenum or canopy, which needs cleaning to TR19

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Restaurants and pubs
  • Mesh filters
  • Wall canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Island canopies

Leave it or put it right?

Grease-loaded filters are a fire risk in their own right. A flare-up on the range can reach them, and from there into the duct. Clean filters mean less fuel in the canopy. Light use slows the build-up but doesn’t stop it.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
