About our grease filter exchange in Bagmore
The filters in the canopy are the first thing cooking vapour meets. They catch grease before it reaches the plenum and ductwork and they do it best when they’re clean. With grease filter exchange, clean filters replace greasy ones at regular intervals. Typical jobs include smoke and heat lingering under the hood and hand-washed filters that still look greasy, across island canopies, school and hospital kitchens and restaurants and pubs.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

When something else is needed
Grease filter exchange cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before any work starts. It doesn’t solve:
- A heavily greased plenum or canopy, which needs cleaning to TR19
- A canopy too small for the cooking beneath it
- Cooking smells reaching neighbours, which need odour control
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What happens on the day
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Bagmore before we set off.
- First, we check the canopies and the filters in them.
- We note any filters that are bent, damaged or missing.
- We exchange the dirty filters for a clean set.
- The filters are checked for fit before we go.
- Anything that needs attention, such as a greasy plenum, is pointed out.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Move anything stored near the system
- Find the previous report, if there is one
How to get a quote
Quotes are quick. Send a few details and pictures, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.
Advice
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
What grease filter exchange looks like in Bagmore
Bagmore sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. About 46 miles out from central London, Bagmore is part of the South East area we work across. Evening, overnight and weekend visits are all possible.
If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Hall Place is about 3 miles south), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St. Mary or elsewhere in Bagmore, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Alton Community Hospital is the nearest hospital to Bagmore, about 4.9 miles south-east.
Bagmore is about 5 miles north-west of Alton, in Hampshire. Whatever kind of site you run in Bagmore, we can take on grease filter exchange. Visits can be booked for evenings, overnight or weekends so trading isn’t interrupted. Our area takes in 683 places across Hampshire, from busy centres to quieter spots. Your questions about grease filter exchange in Bagmore
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Bagmore?
Fire safety enforcement in Bagmore is handled by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Can you come to Bagmore after we close?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in Bagmore does not have to lose a day’s trading. When you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us, mention when the site is quiet.
How often should grease filters be changed?
It depends on how much and what the kitchen cooks. Heavy cooking means more frequent changes than kitchens that cook less. We agree the interval with you.
How far ahead should we book?
For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need and the fixed quote is built on it.
Do I get a report after the visit?
Yes, always. The report is dated and includes pictures, plus a certificate via the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal for TR19® Grease cleans. File it with your fire safety records.
What’s TR19?
TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Every site has its own report.
Aftercare tips
No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:
- Clean the canopy surfaces regularly
- Make sure no filter is left out
- Keep the canopy clear for exchange visits
- Report damaged filters so they can be replaced
The next exchange is already in the diary. If the kitchen gets busier, the interval can be shortened to match.
Damaged filters leave gaps in the defence. Replacing them early protects the plenum and ductwork.
What affects the cost of grease filter exchange
The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- How many systems or sites are involved
A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You’ll have a fixed price before we start.
What to send for a quote
A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, photos of the system and any previous report or certificate. Once you have those, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
What else we do in Bagmore
Why deal with it now?
Grease-loaded filters are a fire risk in their own right. A flare-up on the range can reach them, and from there into the duct. Clean filters mean less fuel in the canopy. If the system at a site near Bagmore fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.
Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered and we’ll price it together.

Part by part
Busy restaurant and pub kitchens
High-output kitchens clog filters quickly. Their exchange schedule is typically the tightest.
Mesh filters
Older or smaller canopies often use mesh filters. They can be on the same exchange schedule as baffle filters.
