Grease filter exchange in Aston

About our grease filter exchange in Aston

Grease filters are the first line of defence in a kitchen extract. Their job is to stop grease getting further into the system, but only while they’re reasonably clean. With grease filter exchange, clean filters replace greasy ones at regular intervals. If you have smoke and heat lingering under the hood and filters left unwashed on busy weeks, we can put it right, from mesh filters, baffle filters and wall canopies onwards.

For a kitchen in or near Aston, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with pictures, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. File it in your maintenance log so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

FAQs for Aston

Do you work overnight in Aston?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The work in Aston can fit around your hours. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Do you cover smaller places like Aston?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Aston is covered. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

What if some of our filters are damaged?

A bent filter leaves a gap for grease. We flag any we find and explain what’s needed.

How long does grease filter exchange take?

On site, it takes a short visit, depending on how many filters the canopies hold. Larger systems naturally take longer, and we will tell you what to expect.

What does TR19 mean?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

Which accreditations do you hold?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

How much notice do you need?

For planned work, earlier is better, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

Do you recommend a next date?

Yes. We put a recommended next date on the report. For kitchen extracts, BESA’s minimum intervals run from every 3 months for heavy use to every 12 months for light use, while fire dampers are tested at least annually.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Looking after it afterwards

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Keep every filter in place during service
  • Keep the canopy clear for exchange visits
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is in use
  • Keep filter exchange and TR19 cleaning on the same plan

The canopy looks cleaner and the air moves better from the moment they’re fitted. Always run the extract during cooking so they catch grease as intended.

Clean filters plus regular full cleans keep the system in good health. A maintenance plan that covers both means neither slips.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

The process

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to Aston run smoothly.

  1. We start by noting how many filters you have and what type they are.
  2. Together we set how often the filters should be changed.
  3. At each visit, the greasy filters are lifted out.
  4. We fit clean filters and check they sit snugly in the housing.
  5. We flag any damaged filters or anything wrong with the canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Clear loose items from the work area

Getting a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Advice

Grease filter exchange around Aston

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 12 pubs, bars and clubs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Aston. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. The fire and rescue service for Aston is Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. In Aston, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from East Hertfordshire council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Aston Bury is about 0.7 miles south), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. A hospital like Lister Hospital, about 3.6 miles north-west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, or anywhere in Aston, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

When something else is needed

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • A heavily greased plenum or canopy, which needs cleaning to TR19
  • Grease already built up in the ductwork, which needs a full TR19 clean
  • An extract that was undersized from the start

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on in Aston

  • Baffle filters
  • Restaurants and pubs
  • Island canopies
  • Mesh filters
  • Wall canopies
  • School and hospital kitchens

Leave it or put it right?

Grease dripping from the canopy is a sign the filters can’t hold any more. Drips land on surfaces and equipment below and that’s the kind of thing inspectors look for. Planning a trip to Aston ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re unsure, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

What affects the cost of grease filter exchange

There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • How big the system is
  • How many systems or sites are involved

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before any work starts.

Asking for a quote

You do not need the technical terms. Just send:

  • The site address and the type of premises
  • A few general shots of the system
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Problems your staff have spotted

Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, photos of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Then phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
