Extract fan cleaning in West End, Hampshire
Professional extract fan cleaning in and around West End, timed so the site keeps working and finished with a written report and photos.
- Hot, greasy smells near the fan
- Fat spreading onto the roof or wall by the fan
- A fan motor running hot under a coat of grease
What your team can do, and what needs us
Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
How we handle extract fan cleaning in West End
Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract fans since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re often asked to deal with an extract fan with no cleaning record and vibration from an unbalanced impeller, across discharge points, roof-mounted fans and fan housings.
In a smaller place like West End, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Flat runs collect grease and need proper access to clean.
Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. So every job comes with a written report and photos, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

Between visits
Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Do not store items in front of the fan’s access point
- Never cook with a filter missing
- Watch for grease marks around the outlet
- Do not turn the fan off mid-service
If the fan needs more than a clean, we will say so plainly. We also repair and replace extract fans, so you have one point of contact.
Stick to the interval for the full extract. Regular full cleans keep the fan from building up heavy deposits, in line with BESA guidance.
The process
Your staff do not need to do much on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. Because the survey comes first, a visit to West End can typically be finished without a second trip.
- First we check the fan’s condition and how it sounds.
- With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
- The impeller is cleaned blade by blade so it runs balanced.
- We clean the casing, the outlet and around the motor.
- We run the fan and note its condition in the photo report.
Preparing for the visit
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Let us know about parking and loading
How to get a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before work begins.

Extract fan cleaning around West End
Food Standards Agency data counts about 28 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 29 takeaways and sandwich shops in West End and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they cook under a canopy, an extract fan is pulling grease-laden air through its blades every service. In West End, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Eastleigh council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. West End is covered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.
Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to West End is Moorgreen Hospital, about 0.7 miles east. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (South Stoneham House is about 1.7 miles west), access may need planning.
West End is about 2 miles east of Southampton, in Hampshire. We carry out extract fan cleaning for businesses, landlords and public buildings in West End and the rest of Hampshire. Our Hampshire coverage runs to 683 places, and West End is one of them.
Work in SO30 and SO18 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Streets in the area include High Street, Hatch Mead and Glenlea Close, and we cover them all for extract fan cleaning. Nearby, we also carry out extract fan cleaning in Chartwell Green (1 mile west), Harefield (1 mile south), Townhill Park (1 mile west), Midanbury (1 mile west) and Mansbridge (1 mile north-west). We also work in nearby towns such as Winchester (9 miles north), Gosport (12 miles south-east), Eastleigh (3 miles north), Fareham (8 miles south-east), Horndean (14 miles east) and Totton (7 miles west).
Near you in West End
We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Itchen Valley Country Park, Woodlands Community College and The Gregg School. For rail, the closest station is Southampton Airport Parkway station, roughly 1.8 miles north-west. Nearby you will also find Netley Castle (3.7 miles south) and Marlands Shopping Centre (3.3 miles south-west). Open spaces near West End include Netley Common.
How the job changes from site to site
Impellers and blades
Grease on the leading edges of the blades cuts the fan’s efficiency. Scraping and degreasing them restores their shape, so the fan can run as intended.
Inline duct fans
Some fans are built into the duct itself. They’re reached through access panels or by opening the casing after isolating them.
Common questions in West End
Will you come out to West End?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, West End included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in West End in the summer holidays?
Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 20 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of West End. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.
How long does extract fan cleaning take?
Allow a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Your quote will give an idea.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19® is the recognised way to show grease is under control.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.
How do you protect the area?
Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
Is the fan included in a TR19 clean?
Yes, the fan is part of a full TR19® Grease clean. We clean it alongside the canopy, ductwork and discharge.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we’ve been trading since 2009.
Common problems we fix in West End
A greasy fan in West End is fuel at the end of the duct. If grease in the duct catches, the fan and its housing can feed the fire, and a hot, struggling motor does not help.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- A smell of hot grease from the extract
- A fan left out of previous cleans
- Less air being pulled from the kitchen
- Grease escaping from the fan outlet
Term dates shape school work: for a school like Saint James' Church of England Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.
Before you book anyone
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
- When the next visit should be, and why
- If they look at the system before pricing
- Whether the price is fixed
Leave it or put it right?
Grease on the fan is grease in the system. A TR19 clean that left out the fan wouldn’t cover the whole system, and insurers asking for TR19 cleaning expect the full system. A planned visit to West End fits your hours; an emergency does not.
We do not list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll talk you through it.

What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- How big the system is
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- A single visit or a regular plan
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.
What we need to know
A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
