Landlords, agents and facilities managers
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.
Extract fan cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Walton
Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract fans since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers centrifugal fans, fan housings and discharge points, and people most often call us about a fan coated in grease inside its housing and hot, greasy smells near the fan.
In a village or hamlet like Walton, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
A written report with photos follows every visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Walton: your questions answered
Who is the fire and rescue service for Walton?
Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Walton. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
Is Walton within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Do we need to close while you work?
Not normally. We work when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends, so you keep your normal hours.
Which sectors do you work in?
Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
Is the fan included in a TR19 clean?
Yes, a full TR19 clean includes the fan. If a fan cannot be reached, the report says so, so you always know what was cleaned.
What accreditations do you have?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.
What should I send you?
Some photos and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.
Is it safe to clean the fan while the kitchen is open?
The fan is isolated before we open it, so it cannot start while we work. That means the extract is off, so we clean while the kitchen is closed.
Fixed quotes for extract fan cleaning in Walton
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- How easy every part is to reach
- The times the site is available
The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.
Asking for a quote
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:
- Any previous report or certificate
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- The postcode and the type of business
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
To get a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We usually come back within one working day.
Keeping the system healthy
No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:
- Never cook with a filter missing
- Tell us if the extract feels weaker
- Run the extract throughout cooking
- Report rattles or humming early
The photo report shows the fan before and after cleaning. It notes what was done and anything that couldn’t be reached, along with the recommended next clean date.
Fewer grease particles reaching the fan means less build-up. Keep the grease filters clean, fitted and in place, and replace any that are damaged.
How it works
The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes an hour or two for most single fans, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. The timing of a visit to Walton is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.
- We start by checking where the fan sits and how to isolate it.
- Power to the fan is isolated before anyone touches it.
- Grease is scraped from the impeller blades and the inside of the housing.
- The fan and its surrounds are degreased, keeping clear of the motor’s electrics.
- The fan is put back into service, checked and photographed.
Preparing for the visit
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Move anything stored near the system
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
Getting a quote
We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Leave it or put it right?
Cleaning the fan in Walton now is a short job: it takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Leaving it means more wear, more noise and a bigger clean later. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before we start.
