Extract fan cleaning in The Valley

Part by part

Impellers and blades

The impeller is the spinning part that moves the air, and it collects grease unevenly. An uneven coating throws it off balance, so it’s cleaned carefully blade by blade.

Roof-mounted fans

A roof fan sits in cooler air, so grease can settle heavily. The impeller and housing are scraped and degreased.

Extract fan cleaning for kitchens and businesses in The Valley

Grease on a fan is not spread evenly. Heavier deposits on some blades throw the impeller off balance, leading to vibration, noise and strain on the motor and bearings. Cleaning the impeller and housing puts that right. The work covers fan housings, axial fans and in-line fans, and the jobs we see most are a fan that has never been cleaned and burning smells from the fan area.

In a small place like The Valley, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

  • An impeller that’s bent or split

What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • What state the system is in
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

What we need to know

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

How the visit works

Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits, and we clear up before we go. Visits to a village like The Valley are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.

  1. We locate the fan and plan how to reach and isolate it.
  2. It’s isolated so it can’t run while we work.
  3. We scrape the heavy grease from the blades and housing.
  4. Blades, housing and surrounds are degreased with care around the electrics.
  5. We reassemble, run and photograph the fan.

How to prepare

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Tell us where we can park and unload

How to get a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

The Valley questions

Can you come to The Valley after we close?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in The Valley does not have to lose a day’s trading. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Which council inspects kitchens in The Valley?

In The Valley, it’s Swale council that carries out food hygiene inspections. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

How long does extract fan cleaning take?

It takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits. Your quote will give an idea.

What’s TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked, and it takes a risk-based approach.

How do you protect the area?

Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Just the basics: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

How often should the extract fan be cleaned?

It depends on how many hours the kitchen cooks, under BESA guidance. At the extremes, that’s 3-monthly for heavy use and 12-monthly for light use, fan included.

Do you provide a report after cleaning the fan?

Every clean has a photo report, along with notes on the fan’s condition. For a full TR19 clean, you also get a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

The Valley kitchens: local notes

In The Valley, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Swale council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. About 42 miles out from central London, The Valley is part of the South East area we work across. Evening, overnight and weekend visits are all possible.

Where a hall near Church of St Lawrence, or anywhere in The Valley, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Belmont House and Gardens is about 2.1 miles north-east), access may need planning.

The Valley is about 6 miles south-west of Faversham, in Kent. From the centre of The Valley to the outskirts, extract fan cleaning is available to all kinds of commercial premises, from a single unit to a large public building. Our area takes in 922 places across Kent, large and small. Our Maidstone page covers sites nearby, about 12 miles away.

Work in ME13 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Other places close to The Valley include Stalisfield Green (1 mile south), Stalisfield (1 mile south), Eastling (2 miles north), Throwley Forstal (2 miles east) and Throwley (2 miles north-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Maidstone (12 miles west), Ashford (8 miles south), Canterbury (12 miles east), Sittingbourne (7 miles north-west), Whitstable (12 miles north-east) and Faversham (6 miles north-east).

Aftercare tips

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Tell us if the extract feels weaker
  • Keep the fan on whenever the range is lit
  • Keep each photo report with the maintenance log
  • Make sure the fan is included each time

The area around the fan is left clean, with waste grease removed. Wherever the fan is, the area around it is cleaned down.

Fewer grease particles reaching the fan means less build-up. Clean, well-seated filters are the fan’s first protection, and replace any that are damaged.
