Need extract fan cleaning in Pimlico?

Why deal with it now?

Without a working extract fan, a kitchen can’t cook safely. Grease is often where fan trouble begins, so cleaning the fan helps keep it working. If it does fail, our 24/7 emergency line is there. In a place like Pimlico, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered and we will price it together.

Extract fan cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Pimlico

The fan is cleaned as part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but some fans need cleaning between full cleans, for example when it’s noisy or vibrating. A fan-only clean is recorded as exactly that. The work covers in-line fans, roof-mounted fans and fan housings, and the jobs we see most are grease stains around the discharge and hot, greasy smells near the fan.

Somewhere as small as Pimlico, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. So every job comes with a written report and photos, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

What happens on the day

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, while signing off means the written report and pictures. The middle part takes longest, and that takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Pimlico.

  1. First we locate the fan and agree how it’s safely isolated.
  2. Power to the fan is isolated before anyone touches it.
  3. Grease is scraped from the impeller blades and the inside of the housing.
  4. We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
  5. The fan is put back into service, checked and photographed.

How to prepare

Extract fan cleaning in Pimlico: the local picture

Food Standards Agency data counts about 11 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 6 sandwich bars and takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Pimlico. Each kitchen extract among them ends at a fan, and grease on the impeller strains the motor. In Pimlico, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Three Rivers council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Pimlico sits within the area of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of the Ascension or elsewhere in Pimlico, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. A hospital like Leavesden Hospital, about 1.9 miles south, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Pimlico is about 2 miles south-east of Hemel Hempstead, in Hertfordshire. Keeping the system healthy

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Do not store items in front of the fan’s access point
  • Keep each photo report with the maintenance log
  • Report rattles or humming early
  • Flag smoke lingering at the canopy

A full system clean includes a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If only the fan is cleaned, the photo report says so.

Run the fan throughout cooking. Air that keeps moving carries vapour out rather than letting it settle, so keeping it running helps keep it clean.

What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning

Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • The condition we find in the survey

What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Asking for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Any previous report or certificate

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Your questions about extract fan cleaning in Pimlico

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Pimlico in the summer holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 4 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Pimlico. Send us your term dates when you ring 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we’ll fit the work in.

Can you work in Pimlico outside opening hours?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The work in Pimlico can fit around your hours. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.

Are you insured?

Yes, fully. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it for clients who vet their contractors.

What happens to the waste?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it does not spread.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

Do you repair extract fans as well as clean them?

Anything beyond cleaning is flagged, with what we found. We can repair or replace it, and if it fails outright, our 24/7 emergency line is there.

Can the fan be cleaned between full cleans?

Yes, we do. We record it as a fan-only clean, so your TR19 records stay accurate. The whole system still needs cleaning at the intervals in BESA guidance.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Every site has its own report.

Different parts, different methods

Kitchens with long cooking hours

When a busy kitchen’s fan fails, cooking stops. Keeping the fan clean is part of avoiding that, and our 24/7 emergency callout is there if it happens anyway.

Roof-mounted fans

A roof fan sits in cooler air, so grease can settle heavily. We scrape and degrease the blades and casing.

Common problems we fix in Pimlico

Grease on a fan is a fire risk, in Pimlico as anywhere. A fire in the duct can reach the fan and the grease around it, and a hot, struggling motor does not help.

Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • An extract fan with no cleaning record
  • Grease around the motor and its mounts
  • A fan coated in grease inside its housing
  • An extract fan that vibrates or rattles

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Bedmond Academy, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

What your quote should include

  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • Whether a written report and photos are included
  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • Proof of insurance

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

What staff can safely do

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
