Extract fan cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Heart's Delight
Every kitchen extract depends on its fan: it draws the air through the canopy and ductwork and pushes it outside. Whatever grease slips past the filters and duct reaches the fan, and that’s what we clean. The work covers discharge points, fan housings and centrifugal fans, and the jobs we see most are less air being pulled from the kitchen and a heavily greased fan housing.
Somewhere as small as Heart's Delight, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.
The report is your system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

How it works
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and it goes on the report too. All told, the work takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Heart's Delight before we set off.
- We start by checking where the fan sits and how to isolate it.
- The fan is isolated so it cannot start while we work.
- We remove the grease from the blades, impeller and casing.
- We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
- We reassemble, run the fan and photograph the result.
Before we arrive
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Tell us where we can park and unload

When something else is needed
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- A motor that has burnt out
- Grease in the duct and canopy before the fan (those need a full TR19 clean)
- A fan that is too small for the system (a design question)
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will say what we think.
What the work covers

Common problems we fix in Heart's Delight
The fan sits at the end of the grease’s journey. Whatever grease is still in it settles on the impeller and inside the housing, and the spinning blades fling it onto the walls of the housing.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- Burning smells from the fan area
- Less air being pulled from the kitchen
- An extract fan that vibrates or rattles
- Grease stains around the discharge
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Peter and St Paul or elsewhere in Heart's Delight, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. It’s Swale council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Heart's Delight. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
Bursars and site managers at schools such as Minterne Community Junior School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.
Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.
What the work involves, part by part
Wall fans
The wall around a wall fan can be stained with grease. We clean the fan and check the outlet.
Kitchens with long cooking hours
A long-hours kitchen cannot afford a fan failure. Keeping the fan clean is part of avoiding that, and our 24/7 emergency callout is there if it happens anyway.
Why it’s worth doing now in Heart's Delight
Grease on a roof fan can also escape outside. It marks the area around the outlet and leaves more fuel outside, which is one more reason to keep it clean. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Heart's Delight rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we survey first, from photos or on site, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

Common questions in Heart's Delight
Can the work in Heart's Delight be done at night or at weekends?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. That way a site in Heart's Delight does not have to lose a day’s trading. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we’ll book within them.
Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Heart's Delight during the holidays?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. The FSA’s register shows about 16 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Heart's Delight. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
What does TR19 mean?
TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.
Do we need to close while you work?
Not normally. We work when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends, so you keep your normal hours.
Should the extract fan be cleaned as part of TR19?
Yes, the fan is part of a full TR19® Grease clean. It’s isolated, opened and cleaned along with the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts and discharge.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. We always survey first, either from photos and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.
