Extract fan cleaning for sites in Faygate

Faygate questions

Which council inspects kitchens in Faygate?

Food hygiene inspections in Faygate are carried out by Horsham council. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Do you work in villages like Faygate?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.

Are you insured?

Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and the details are available on request.

What happens to the waste?

We contain it and take it with us. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on rather than letting it spread.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Only a few details: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. After that, simply call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

Can the work be done while we’re closed?

Yes. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote and we will plan the visit around them.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

How we handle extract fan cleaning in Faygate

The extract fan is the heart of the system: it pulls air from the canopy, through the duct and out of the building. Whatever grease slips past the filters and duct reaches the fan, and that’s what we clean. Typical jobs include grease stains around the discharge and rough running from the extract fan, across fan housings, in-line fans and axial fans.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.

Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

What the work involves, part by part

Roof-mounted fans

On a roof, the air is cooler and grease drops out faster. The impeller and housing are scraped and degreased.

Fan housings and motors

Some fans use a belt drive. Belts and pulleys are checked and cleaned where safe for your records.

Why it’s worth doing now in Faygate

Grease on the fan is grease in the system. A TR19 clean that left out the fan wouldn’t cover the whole system and many insurers require the full system to be cleaned to TR19. With notice, the visit to Faygate can be fitted around your bookings and events.

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. You’ll have a fixed price before work begins.

What extract fan cleaning can’t fix

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so here are the limits:

  • A cracked or broken impeller (it needs replacing)
  • A motor that has burnt out
  • A fan that is too small for the system (a design question)

If you are not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Fan housings
  • Roof-mounted fans
  • Centrifugal fans
  • Discharge points
  • Axial fans
  • In-line fans

The process

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes an hour or two for one fan, longer when it’s hard to reach. A few pictures of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Faygate.

  1. We locate the fan and plan how to reach and isolate it.
  2. It’s isolated so it can’t run while we work.
  3. Grease is scraped off the impeller blades and casing.
  4. The fan is degreased, taking care around the motor.
  5. We reassemble, run and photograph the fan.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions

Ask for a quote

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Advice

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

Looking after it afterwards

So the system stays in good health:

  • Check filters are seated before cooking
  • Look for grease stains near the discharge
  • File the fan’s report with your other records
  • Listen for new noises or vibration from the fan

We take away the grease and dirty water from the fan clean. On a roof or outside wall, we leave the surrounding area tidy.

Make sure the fan is reachable. A fan that can be reached safely is a fan that gets cleaned, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.

Grease, kitchens and Faygate

Kitchens in Faygate get their food hygiene inspections from Horsham council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. At about 29 miles from central London, Faygate sits well inside the area we cover. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site.

If you run a café or takeaway near Faygate station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Francis' Church or elsewhere in Faygate, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. A hospital like Crawley Hospital, about 3.2 miles north-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Faygate is about 3 miles north-east of Horsham, in West Sussex. Across the RH12 area, we cover extract fan cleaning for commercial sites. Faygate is one of 371 towns, villages and districts in West Sussex where we work for commercial clients. You can also see our page for Guildford, roughly 17 miles from Faygate.

Every address in RH12 is covered for extract fan cleaning, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Neighbouring places we cover for extract fan cleaning include Kilnwood Vale (1 mile east), Colgate (1 mile south-east), Roffey (2 miles south-west), Broadfield (2 miles east) and Mannings Heath (4 miles south).
