Need extract fan cleaning in Broadwater Down?

What we are called out for in Broadwater Down

The fan sits at the end of the grease’s journey. The grease that’s left lands on the blades and the casing where the spinning blades spread it around.

The symptoms we’re asked about most are:

  • Weak extraction at the canopy
  • Rough running from the extract fan
  • Grease escaping from the fan outlet
  • Vibration from an unbalanced impeller

School kitchens, at schools like Broadwater Down Primary School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Extract fan cleaning in Broadwater Down

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract fans since 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are often asked to deal with a heavily greased fan housing and grease escaping from the fan outlet, on discharge points, in-line fans and roof-mounted fans.

Size does not change the work: a kitchen in a place like Broadwater Down gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

What happens on the day

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Your opening hours decide when we come to Broadwater Down, not ours.

  1. We find the fan and check how it’s reached and how it’s isolated.
  2. The fan is isolated so it cannot start while we work.
  3. We remove the grease from the blades, impeller and casing.
  4. We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
  5. We reassemble, run the fan and photograph the result.

Before we arrive

  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

How to get a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Leave it or put it right?

Without a working extract fan, a kitchen can’t cook safely. Grease is often where fan trouble begins, so keeping it clean is part of keeping it running. We also offer a 24/7 emergency callout if the worst happens. Booking now means the visit to Broadwater Down is planned around you, not forced by a breakdown.

Part by part

Kitchens with long cooking hours

A fan in a long-hours kitchen runs for most of the day, which means grease and wear add up quickly. Regular cleans help it keep going.

Inline duct fans

Inline fans sit within the duct run, often above a ceiling. They’re reached through access panels or by opening the casing after isolating them.

Fixed quotes for extract fan cleaning in Broadwater Down

There’s no set price list, because no two systems are the same. What we look at:

  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • The condition we find in the survey

A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before any work starts.

Asking for a quote

We can often survey from pictures. The most useful are:

  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • A few general shots of the system
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Questions from Broadwater Down

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Broadwater Down?

Broadwater Down is in the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Which environmental health team covers Broadwater Down?

In Broadwater Down, it’s Tunbridge Wells council that carries out food hygiene inspections. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

How do you protect the area?

Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

Will we have to shut during the visit?

Not typically. The area we’re working in has to be out of use while we are there, so we book a time when it would be closed anyway.

How often should the extract fan be cleaned?

It depends on how many hours the kitchen cooks in BESA guidance. At the extremes, that’s 3-monthly for heavy use and 12-monthly for light use, fan included.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Can you fix a fan that is worn out?

Fan repair and replacement is part of what we do. If cleaning shows a worn motor, bearings or impeller, we’ll tell you and quote for the repair.

How much notice do you need?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.
